the ACLU is a non profit organization who's mission is to defend an individuals rights and liberties of everyone  in the US by the constitution of laws of the USA. it works though lobbying and litigation. 
PAST: founded in 1920 it was mainly focused on freedom of speech mainly focusing on anti-war protesters. later on in the year they expanded on protecting the free speech rights with the national association of the advancement of coloured people to decrease racism. in 1930's ACLU started to work on working against police misconducted and native American rights.
PRESENT: ACLU is the nations guardian of liberty with working in legislatures, courts, and all through communities.
