The Dwarves and Bilbo Baggins

They can be symbolized as shields because they've protected Bilbo throughout their long and exhilarating journey. They'd fight against anything Bilbo has gotten himself into, but they've gotten themselves into crazy predicaments as well. Whenever they do get themselves into trouble, Bilbo, who can be symbolized as a sword, comes in to save the dwarves from big complications.

The Dwarves vs. Smaug

The Dwarves are only after Smaug because Smaug has their valuable treasures. "'...and he took all their wealth for himself. Probably, for that is the dragons’ way, he has piled it all up in a great heap far inside, and sleeps on it for a bed.'"The Angry Birds can relate to this because the birds started coming after the pigs for stealing their eggs, and they won't stop until they get their eggs back.

Adventurous

For mood, I'd say the author was feeling adventurous. Tolkien made a novel with many different characters and species that don't exist in the real world and a plot for the main characters to experience many new things. For tone, it's also adventurous because Bilbo goes on an adventure with a bunch of Dwarves and Bilbo discovered many new things throughout the bizarre adventure.

There's nothing wrong with trying new things. It might make long lasting memories.

At the beginning of the novel, Bilbo was to go on an adventure with a bunch of dwarves. “Sorry! I don’t want any adventures, thank you. Not today. Good morning! But please come to tea—any time you like! Why not tomorrow? Come tomorrow! Good bye!” Bilbo wasn't so fond or comfortable with going on an adventure, but as time passes, he starts to like the adventure and proves his worth to the dwarves.
