McGinley's event titled 'Meitheal Líniochta (Drawing ‘Work Team’)' aimed to create a collaborative drawing or Meitheal Líniochta. The idea of ‘Meitheal’ or ‘work team ’as it is the Irish term that denotes a community collective working towards a common goal, an act of neighbourly help and cooperation. This social concept is embedded in our Irish consciousness and McGinley utilises this approach not just as an instinctive methodology for his practice but also as a way to include and engage with both his own community and the audience. This activity will be accompanied by a live fiddle player.

Mac Giolla Bhríde attempts to dismantle the complexity of these gendered hierarchies by consciously inhabiting the role of the builder, architect and interior designer simultaneously. This serves as a way of positioning themselves, and manifesting sculptural artwork responsive to site. Construction materials, such as salvaged glass panels and personal artifacts, are selected, gathered, deposited and arranged on site, finding resolution in a sculptural staging that reconciles inherited architectural histories with the immediate physical environment, via subjective reinterpretations from a feminist/queer perspective.

One section of the exhibition had architectural maps that were concealed/hidden/tucked behind sheets of clear glass.

Rhona Byrne will present her new project, Huddlewear, a series of wearable artworks/social clothing developed by the artist during an artists residency at Facebook HQ Dublin.

To take part in this artwork there has to be a level of communication, understanding and mutuality for both individuals as it is a wearable sculpture.

'sculptural commission addresses place, the environment, and our relationship to time through the rhythm of the tides. Beattie places community participation at the heart of the project; inviting the local community to consider the ebb and flow of the river, encouraging participants to rethink their relationship with the river and their natural environment, prompting introspection and an examination of personal and collective histories. In this period of lockdown, the river has become a central point, giving people access to nature and to commune with the idea of slowing down. In Rebecca Solnit’s book, Wanderlust: A History of Walking, she says, “The rhythm of walking generates a kind of rhythm of thinking, and the passage through a landscape echoes or stimulates the passage through a series of thoughts. This creates an odd consonance between internal and external passage, one that suggests that the mind is also a landscape of sorts and that walking is one way to traverse it. A new thought often seems like a feature of the landscape that was there all along, as though thinking were travelling rather than making.”

In addition, a temporary sonic event will be held each day at high and low tides to mark the ebb and flow of the River Foyle.

~Tide time research

~Ebb and flow research

Falke Pisano | Figures of Speech (2007-2010)

Figures of Speech is a long-term examination of processes that occur, when 'objects' start shifting their form, materiality, meaning, description, understanding, role, agency.

I am particularly interested in this series of work as it is largely based Pisano's performative writing practice, 'of formulating and reformulating of ideas-the works involved a circulation and exchange of language, ideas and forms; A transfer from one work to another often involving a change of status, a reflection within a different context or a further elaboration on an idea.'

The term 'object' can shape-shift into any guise. Writing is a key method within my practice but it is an area I struggle to give form to. For example, how something sculptural can be transformed into a glossary.

I printed this article a while ago but I can't find the link anymore. McLean-Ferris situated Pisano's practice as human speech 'transformed into tangible form. Imagine that someone said something which had effects-on her own ability to speak, on that of others, on the future -and that you could see these effects, like a perfectly formed, beautifully crystalline schema spilling forth from the speaker. MAPPING out all future potentials. Imagine this was a sculpture. MAPPING and materialising characteristics the kinds of propositions Pisano puts forward via diagrams, sculptures, writing, lectures, interviews (for she has done them, when she has elected to) and books.'

I thought how the term MAPPING was used here was key to understand or coming to an understanding of Pisano's practice. That the artworks can inhabit any form and MAP out the same narrative but through a different kind of language.

Horáková's paper straddles metaphors between water and dreams.

I stumbled upon this paper and wasn't very familiar with Flusser's work, his essayistic and poetic style of writing can be speculative, he is often described as a 'poet-philosopher'

Relating to Flusser's stylistic approach to presenting arguments, it references how I think and approach writing about floating. That things are always in a state of flux, streams of changing rambles. It is dream-like, and the process of floating can even in itself be dream-like, because there is a point of letting go and closing down that fight or fight response.
