It changes with the seasons and people go to see the tulips/snow droplets etc. In the summer there are rowing tournament parties and Saturday Night at the Proms is shown and they do a light festival and brass bands often play there. It feels as though the museum gardens take the people of York through the seasons, and if in doubt, that is where people meet friends, family etc. at every time of the year.

Tiananmen Square

I feel it significant maybe because almost all the crucial national events will take place in this square, and the restrictions of entering this square is the most strict in China as far a I know.

It is also because there are plenty of national institutions in or around this square so that visitors cannot miss this square when come to Beijing.

Stavanger byparken

This is the main city park in downtown Stavanger, my hometown in Norway. I think one of the things that sticks out in my mind spatially about the park is the way that different parts of the park are associated with different things in my mental map of it: the southeastern shore of the lake in the park is associated in my mind with old drunks and a dangerous strip that one has to rush through as a shortcut from downtown to the bus station. The northeastern side, with its gazeebo and the back of the cathedral I associate with warm childhood memories of feeding pigeons, bands playing, etc. The western side of the park I associate with teenagers and weekend evenings or romantic encounters among the youth, as well as civic ceremonies throughout the year. There is a kind of segregation of spatial practices which may not be entirely accurate in real life but certainly in my mind!

The Padang - Singapore

I grew up hearing about the significance of the Padang in Singapore. Everytime I played sport on the Padang I also felt a sense of pride - and that i was very fortunate to have the opportunity to play int the space.

The padang commands a central place in singapore. It has a strong history and has become a unique experience when visiting.

East Coast Park

The parks that I'm used to like East Coast Park are parks explicitly demarcated for nature-related or recreational use. They also serve as gathering points for groups of friends and family. Not all experiences there require you to be there within the boundaries of the park, and there are many smaller worlds within the park because of how large it is. The park is also seen as an important transitional space because of its sheer length. A key activity like cross-island cycling requires use of the park so even though you arrange to meet at the park you don't actually spend much time there, it's like a bookmark for the longer activity/time you're going to end up having

Bronx Zoo

As my dad worked in conservation, I would visit the Bronx Zoo a lot as a child. I will die on the hill that Zoos are a necessity for conservational fundraising and education. Though there may be issues in some zoos over the ethics and treatment of animals, I feel like overall they are so important to animal conservation and public outreach.
