Re-edited on 21/09/16

In today’s session we were given the following targets by our tutor Leila:
• “Understand the contents of your assignment ‘Change their minds’.”
• “Identify the purpose and contents of a brief.”
• “Understand key technical terminology and be able to explain two techniques.”

(These targets derive from her powerpoint entitled ‘UALlevel 3 Units 1-4 Session 1 (inc tutorial)'.

When reflecting on these targets, I certainly believe I am able to “understand key technical terminology”. A few examples of the techniques I am aware of are:

• Tracking – Tracking can be used in various ways. An example of where it could be used would be, if someone was walking down the street in a scene. The camera would be placed on a tripod which would be connected to tracks in order for the camera operator to ‘track’ the actor/actresses’ movements.

• Crane – A crane can be used when a director wants to show a particular scene from up high before the camera moves closer to the scene.

• Whip Pan – A whip pan may be used to draw the audience’s attention away from one thing to another. Whip pans are very rapid which ensures that the audience are made aware that they are about to focus on something important.

I am aware of this terminology as we had a camera workshop with our (insert Dave's title) Dave. He supplied us with information about the cameras we were going to be using, alongside this we also learnt about camera techniques, shots and angles.

After this, we then got to try out the Sony HD cameras. Dave gave us a tutorial on how to use the camera and adjust specific settings. Firstly, we covered focus, and we were made aware that by focusing onto someone’s eye is very helpful in ensuring that the whole shot (even when zooming out) is in focus.

In addition, we also learnt how to manually alter the exposure and white balance of a photo. Following this, we were allocated a shot list of which we had to complete a total of fourteen shots. My group and I managed to fulfil this, as we filmed and photographed all of the different variety of shots ranging from close ups to Dutch tilts.

When filming, a problem occurred; the issue was that our camera battery ran out. We managed to resolve this issue by getting a new battery. To avoid this in the future we should check that our battery is fully charged or bringing spare batteries with us to our location.

Personally, I believe as a group we worked efficiently and productively. This is shown by the fact we successfully accomplished our task of completing the shot list we were assigned. On the other hand, to improve upon this we could have tried to shoot some extra photos/videos.

One of my personal SMART targets is to improve my teamwork skills. In my opinion, I know that I have achieved this in today’s session. Despite being put in a new environment with new people, my whole group communicated their thoughts and included themselves in the work. To continue my progress, I would like to take a leadership role in order to gain managerial skills.

Another personal target I set, more geared towards media itself, was to re-introduce myself to using a camera and different camera shots. This target has been accomplished as I used the camera during the workshop and whilst filming. Additionally, when we were in the workshop my memory of camera shots was refreshed.

Tutor feedback:
Great use and analysis of your own personal target and how it was achieved; this will be good to review in the next few months to track your progress.
You have also shown a clear understanding of subject terminology within your diaries-
Great work; keep it up!

Re-edited on 21/09/16

At the beginning of today our tutor Leila set us the following targets: (these targets have been sourced from Leila Capocefalo’s powerpoint titled ‘Lesson 2 Shooting your first scene).

• “Understand and identify key processes of video production.”
• “Acknowledge basic lighting set ups and what equipment can be provided for your projects.”
• “Demonstrate knowledge of camera techniques to a professional level.”
• “Develop your team skills as a small production group.”

I believe I have achieved the some of these targets during the sessions throughout the day.

Having completed a lighting workshop my knowledge of lighting has improved, and I am now aware of three point lighting. Three point lighting consists of:

• Key light(ing) – A key light is the main light and is the primary source of light. An example of key lighting would be the sun.

• Fill light(ing) – Fill lighting reduces contrast. It also allows for you to adjust the shadows to be lighter or darker; this depends on how harsh the key light is.

• Back light(ing) – Back lights are mainly used for horror scenes as they can create a halo or silhouette around the subject. When using a back light it is important to aim for the hairline.

In addition to this, I am also aware of what lighting equipment can be supplied for my projects. During the lighting workshop, we were made aware of the variety of lights our college has, they are as follows:

• Mini LEDs – these can be used for documentaries.
• Larger LEDs
• Spot Lights
• Dedo Lights – these can be harsh or dramatic.
• Soft Box Lights – these are mainly used for photography.

In terms of developing my team skills, I believe I did this successfully as we were allocated into a production team of five people. Although, out of these five people I had previously worked with two of the members previously; with those I hadn’t I managed to work with professionally and efficiently. Together we managed to successfully fulfil the target of using a script to create our own take on a section of the film ‘The Room’. In our group, I think that we were successful in doing so because we ensured we were patient with one another when trying to communicate our ideas across.

As a group we did encounter an issue when people were interrupting our filming. In order to resolve this, we preserved and continues filming as soon as they left. I believe in order to avoid this in the future, we could create signs stating that we’re filming and notifying others not to interrupt us.

In addition to this, I also set my own personal target which was to feel more confident with using and adjusting lighting. I achieved this target which was demonstrated when I was helping my fellow production team member lower the exposure and white balance in a particular scene.

Tutor feedback:
Some lovely use of analysis has been shown here in your very detailed diary entry; you have explained and described in depth the problems that occurred and how you could not only improve them, but eradicate them if in another similar situation. Continue to use this style and form within your work in order to ensure that you are working not only to a good standard but to an excellent one. Well done Emma! 😊

At the beginning of today's session, we covered health and safety. We went into the motion room and observed a health and safety set up; we had to pick out the things that could be a hazards and risks.

After doing so, we had to write up the hazards and risks and talk about how we could prevent them; if they were to happen what would we do in that situation. This demonstrates how I am able to understand the risk assessments that need to be taken out as a camera operator.

Following this, we then went onto the iMac's and researched the job role of a camera operator. Then later on in the afternoon, we then analysed some adverts. We focused on the shots, audience, purpose and emotion. My group were assigned the Cadbury's 'Smash' advert. This advert wasn't the easiest of advert's to analyse, in my opinion, as it was dated and the shots do not vary as much as those in a modern day advert would.

After doing this, we then went on to research into current professionals. As we focused on camera operator's earlier, we had to find a current person who works or had worked as a camera operator. Particularly, I found it extremely hard to find current camera operators who met all of the requirements. Having spoken to our tutors Jack and Leila, I found out this was because a lot of camera operators are not usually well known or even credited for their work. Finally, I ended up choosing Dean Semler.

Today, I managed to complete one of my personal targets which was to be able to understand some of the risk assessments that need to be taken out when being a camera operator.

In order to improve next time, I would like to be able to analyse an advert in more depth, whilst also being able to understand the role of a camera operator in further detail.

As today is a Monday, our first session was a tutorial session. Therefore, we spent an hour on work experience, whether that be researching placements or sending emails to prospective employers. In this session, I re-drafted an email to one of my placements, before sending it and I am now awaiting a reply.

Following this, we were introduced to audience theories. The ones we were introduced to were:

• The Hypodermic Needle Theory (Katz):
This theory implies that audiences are passive. It also suggests that the mass media 'injects' audiences with messages which are tailored to create a desired response. They are able to do this because they supposedly have a direct, instant and influential effect; also because audiences are said to be easily controlled and are followers of the media. An example of this would be, Orson Welles' fake radio news bulletin about aliens invading an American city.

• Uses and Gratifications Theory (Blumler and McQuail):
This theory implies that audiences are engaged as they seek out specific media to satisfy their needs. For example, a student may use the internet to research information for their homework.

• Two Step Flow Theory:
This theory suggests that it is more probable that audience members are affected by the media if they talk about it with others. For example, if somebody talks to a friend about something they have seen in the media the chances of their opinion changing are higher.

Our daily targets, set by our tutor Leila, were as follows:

• To learn and apply audience reception theories in the analysis of media products.
• To understand the way in which producers engineer audience responses.
• To develop and apply your understanding of semiotic communication in advertising.

I believe I have been able to achieve two of the targets that were set for us. Today, I certainly have been able to learn and apply audience reception theories when analysing media products. This is evidenced in the PowerPoint Cameron and I created on analysing print advertisements. I was able to apply theory to two examples of print media, both of which were 'Two Step Flow'.

As for understanding how producers tailor audience responses to their needs, I believe I am aware of this technique. Particularly, in how producers of social action posters such as 'THINK' and the 'NHS' make their print adverts to conjure emotions from their audience.

My personal target that I set today was to be able to understand and define semiotics and audience reception theories. As I have been able to display my knowledge of audience reception theories I know I have completed this target.

On the other hand, I am still not aware of semiotics. So, in order to improve, I hope to understand what semiotics are and the purpose of them in advertising in our next session.

At the beginning of today's session, we finished the presentations from the previous lesson. Following that, we had our Meningitis vaccinations before we completed a photography workshop.

In the photography workshop, we experimented with the camera and the lighting we used, as it was the first time we had been in the photography studio. I managed to take quite a few shots of my fellow group members using a DSLR camera, and directed my peers when altering the lighting. We tried to capture photos of emotions, before we ended up just experimenting with the lighting and angles. Next time to improve, I think I should consider depth of field in further detail. I really enjoyed the workshop as photography is something that I love and am excited to learn more about.

After lunch we began to learn about semiotics, specifically signifiers and the reason why they are used in adverts and in the media. I learnt that signifiers are any material things that signify something e.g. an image. Whereas, a something that is signified is the "concept the signifier refers to".

In addition to this, I learnt that denotations are the literal meaning of something and that connotations are the secondary meaning.

Towards the end of the day, we watched some videos such as 'Scary Mary' and 'James Blunt - You're Beautiful (Literal Meaning)'. When watching these, we had to consider the sound and the reasoning behind the sound in relation to semiotics.

My personal targets for this session were to continue to apply audience reception theories when analysing media products which I believe I haven't really been able to achieve today, as I haven't primarily focused on audience reception theories today. However, another one of my personal targets were to understand semiotics when completing a photography workshop. I believe I have been able to do this successfully in today's session because...

The targets that were set in today's session by our tutor Leila were:

• To apply audience reception theories in the analysis of media products.
• To apply understanding of semiotics through a photoshop/camera workshop.

I have been able to apply understanding of semiotics when completing the camera workshop as I successfully adjusted lighting to create different effects in a photo. However, again I haven't applied audience reception theories as much today.

The text in speech marks has been derived from Leila Capocefalo's PowerPoint.

Today's session was based on advert analysis and Photoshop. At the beginning of the lesson the following targets were set by our tutor Jack:

* Critically analyse a video advertisement using audience theories.
* Reflect on own achievements and set personalised targets for next week.

I have been able to analyse a video advertisement critically using audience theories successfully today. Today I analysed the 'Save the Children' advert for the Syrian children and applied various theories such as the 'Hypodermic Needle' theory alongside the 'Two Step Flow' theory. I presented my thoughts to the class.

Later on in the day we were introduced to Photoshop. I managed to create a contact sheet as we were asked to do.

We went over how to remove a background, how to smooth a photo and how to add another background to separate photo. When working on my own photo, I was able to remove the background and replace it with another. In addition to this, I smoothed George's face (the model in the photo). I added a photo of a train into the background as George's expression and placement makes him look as if he's looking back on the train. Personally, I found photoshop very hard to use, but I believe the more I use it the more I'll improve.

In reflection of my work, I have completed the 'Before and After' sheet assigned to us by our tutor Jack. As stated on the sheet, I would like to improve next time by reducing the exposure which would make the photo seem more realistic.

As for my personal target, I have completed it as it was to 're-introduce myself to photoshop and be able to successfully create a contact sheet'.

Earlier in the day, we had tutorial where I sent out another email to a prospective work experience placement, because I did not receive an email back from the other one.

After break, Sophie and I worked together on analysing two beauty adverts that have different cultural perspectives (Saudi Arabia vs. UK). We did this following our tutor Leila showing us some other adverts that contain contrasting cultural perspectives. We managed to apply theory and semiotic knowledge. One of our other tasks was to complete this again but for two different adverts.

Following lunch, we completed a Kahoot quiz with another tutor Dave. He has refreshed our knowledge using photoshop whilst also supplying us with new information about the editing program. We covered hues, saturation, colour balancing alongside fonts and titles. I have been able to successfully use all of these, whilst applying the skills in order to create my own social action poster.

The targets set by our tutor Leila were to:
* Understand how culture and social perspective influence the production and reception of advertising.
* To develop design skills with photoshop.

I believe I have successfully completed both targets, because I now understand that advertising production companies alter their adverts towards their target audience and their cultural and social perspectives. I learnt this when looking at a Cordaid advert that explored how people prefer to spend money on fashion rather than helping out third world countries.

When using photoshop later on, I have developed more design skills than I previously had. This has been displayed through my use of text on the advert I created and also through the colouring I added to the model's eyes in the photo. In order to improve in the future, I would like to add more to my photos when editing them to ensure the advert looks more realistic.

My personal target was:
* To become more confident when using photoshop.

I have definitely achieved this today, because I feel as if the session with Dave has refreshed my memory and as time goes on I will be able to improve upon my skills.

This morning we spent our time looking at video representation of both females and males, but we also looked at the differences between news reporters and shows in the USA and in the UK. I managed to see how female reporters always seem to be attractive and young.

Later on, we individually watched some videos discussing the media. For example, one of them was 'Miss Representation - Deregulation the Media'. In this video, a variety of things were discussed but one of the messages that stuck with me was how celebrity news has become more popular, whether that be with news outlets or with audiences. This displays how current regional news has less importance to people now.

We began a debate before lunch about representation in the media after watching some videos on YouTube. We discussed job roles within the media and the gender ratio of people working in the media. In addition to this, the debate got quite heated as their was the discussion about the ratio of male to female directors and their abilities to create successful films.

Following lunch, we continued to analyse a controversial print advertisement. Sophie and I chose to analyse an advert by Scotch in which consisted of a baby which had scotch tape covering its mouth, alongside with the caption "When mommy just needs some quiet time.". Using audience reception theory we separate analysed this whilst also taking the purpose, target audience, message, representation and impact into consideration.

Our targets that were set by our tutor Leila were to:
* To understand how advertising shapes and represents society.
* To apply knowledge and understand of cultural perspectives.

I believe especially when making notes on the YouTube videos I managed to understand how much advertising shapes and represents society. A lot of females especially are influenced by adverts as they feel as if they have to be like the women on billboards or in magazines.

My personal target was to be able to analyse different adverts and take consider the influence of those adverts. I believe I did this when analysing the Scotch tape advert because I considered the impact the advert would have on parents and their opinions.

In order to improve, I would like to apply more understanding of cultural perspectives when analysing print adverts for the extension tasks.

At the beginning of today's session we analysed another video advert. I chose a Barnado's child abuse advert. The video showed the progression of a child who had been abused, however it was reversed showing his current self before it included flashbacks of his younger self.

Daily Targets:
* Understand the sensitive issues of advertisement production.
* Apply editing techniques used in print advertisement.
* Reflect on own achievements and set personalised targets for next week.

I was able to understand how there are sensitive issues when creating an advert. I am also aware that some adverts have been pulled as they have offended audience members. Some examples of this are the NHS A&E advert.

Moreover, I managed to edit a photo of Adriana Lima using various photoshop techniques. With the help of Jack, our tutor, I managed to alter the colour of her eyebrows, eyes and lips, before putting a black and white filter on top. In order to improve, I would like to make the photos I edit more realistic by using more Photoshop tools.

Personal Target:
* Be able to use editing techniques on Photoshop that are used in print advertisement.

I successfully achieved this target as I used various editing techniques on Photoshop to edit the photo below.

At the beginning of today's lesson we were set the following targets:
* Understand the nature and purpose of research in the creative media industries.
* Identify and describe key terminology relating to audience research and secondary research theories.
* Identify key skills of a researcher that you need to develop in order to successfully design a media product to near a professional standard.

This morning we focused on advertising and research. We watched a video on products that have been brought out without research which have ended up not failing. I found out this is as a result of the companies not completing enough research to find out what their audiences want.

An example of this would be the US XFactor which is too similar to other competitions such as American Idol.

We also found out why companies need to spend money on research, an example would be that companies need to make sure that the product will attract the right audience.

A factor that ensures advertising products do not fail, production companies need to make sure that their product has a unique selling point. This demonstrates my ability to understand the nature and purpose of research.

Additionally, there are are two different types of research methods. Quantitive data is data that is based on numbers and measuring, whereas qualitative data is data that is based on qualities and description. An example of quantitive data is statistics, however an example of qualitative data would be an interview. This displays my knowledge of key terminology.

There are various examples of research techniques:
* Content analysis
* Surveys
* Depth interviews
* Field work
* Case studies
* Focus groups
* Experiments

Demographics are when an audience can be classified and grouped in a certain way. For example, gender, age, income, lifestyle choice, ethnicity or sexuality. We went on to learn about geo-demographics and psychographics.

Following this, we completed research into professional organisations such as BARB and ASA. Once we had completed this, we then went on to research into a singular product. I chose Cosmopolitan Magazine and completed a demographic profile on the product. Throughout this process, I found it very hard to find statistics about Cosmo despite it being a well known brand; this stressed me out. So, may in order to prevent this from happening next time I should make sure to stay calm.
I displayed my skills in researching when I completed the demographic profile on Cosmopolitan Magazine. My personal target was to be able to successfully complete some research which I managed to do when completing the demographic profile.

In order to improve in the future, I would like to find more research information on Cosmopolitan magazine.

The camera focuses solely on the interviewee as the interviewer asks questions off camera.

* 1:1 Interviews - an interview where the interviewer is shown in the shot. There can be cutaways whilst the interview is still being conducted. Additionally there are a variety of shots to convey a conversation that flows smoothly.

Before we conducted our own primary research, my group and I tried out the 1:1 interview technique where we filmed short clips of us conducting the interview.

Following this, Billy, Cameron, George Burgess and I went out into the public and conducted some primary research ourselves. We used the Vox Pop interview technique, and asked members of the public about John Lewis' Christmas Adverts. We faced a few problems as people were reluctant to participate in our interviews so it took us a while to find people who wanted to participate. Cameron and Billy were good at doing this.

After lunch, we continued to work on the advert we had constructed by finishing the edit. I researched into Maryann Brandon and completed a worksheet on both the job role of an editor and Maryann Brandon.

I've completed my personal target as I conducted some primary research myself when I went out with my group. Next time I conduct a 1:1 interview I will make sure the background is tidy and plain so the audience know to focus on the interviewer and interviewee.

Billy and I's 1:1 Interview - https://youtu.be/FMaUc9veog8

Cameron and George's 1:1 interview is an improvement from Billy and I's. Following this, we pitched ourselves for our job roles and I pitched myself as producer and got the role. One of the problems I faced was my confidence, as during my pitch I got flustered and repeated myself twice; to counteract this from happening again, I could better prepare myself or make a PowerPoint to help communicate my thoughts to a large group of people. The PowerPoint would work well as I believe I find it is easier for me to talk in front of large groups of people when I have visual aids and prompts.

My group consists of myself, Callum Chung, Mason Smith, Billy Cleary and Max Barnard. We had a meeting and I, as producer, took meeting minutes. One of the issues we faced was that our director, Max Barnard, was not present so we had to conduct the meeting without him. To solve this issue, we used social media to inform him of his job role and some other information about our production task.

We discussed the deadlines we need to reach, a name for our production team and and ways to contact one another. During the meeting, we also discussed the responsibilities of our roles in a production team and decided that if we were to face a problem, e.g. the attendance of a group member, either myself or Billy would be willing to take on someone's role.

At the moment, I am still in the process of waiting for two of the videos from my sound operator (Mason Smith) that compliment our team meetings to be emailed to me so I can upload them to Padlet.

This is one of the issues that I have faced as it means, I as producer, am unable to complete meetings minutes. So, to prevent this issue from occurring again in the future I could make sure we record the meetings on my personal iPad rather than another team members. Or, my sound operator could be more swift in his completion of the tasks I set him.

Set Targets: * To understand and identify a range of audio equipment and techniques.
* Expand knowledge of audio requirements during productions.
* Develop confidence in sound operating.

Personal Target: * To work efficiently in a team to produce a production that is of excellent quality.

I have understood and identified a range of audio equipment pieces and techniques in today's session because we completed a sound workshop of which we found out about the audio equipment such as TasCam and a boom mic. A technique we found out about today was how to hold a boom mic which a member of our group needs to work on as he develops as a sound operator.

My knowledge of audio requirements during production has expanded as I am now aware that in order to make post-production easier, especially editing, it is important to record at least a minute of sound (with silence on set) to make the transitions smoother in editing.

Personally, I haven't developed my confidence in sound operating because I did not operate the sound in my production; I worked as an actress to play the role of Sally.

One of the issues we faced were that myself and fellow actor Billy kept laughing during filming which made the process of trying to get specific shots harder. To prevent this from happening in the future, we could ensure that the script is not humorous or use professional actors/actresses who are used to acting. Having said this, for our actual production we have decided to use members of our production team as actors/actresses to keep our low-budget.

As for my personal target, I have managed to achieve this to an extent as our production is of good quality although our team could have been more efficient in its production processes. One of the downfalls of our production was the inability to work seriously when we found something funny. Having said this, we had to re-film part of our footage but we managed to successful re-film all of the footage we needed which was efficient of us.

Additionally, one of the factors of our production that we could have worked on was the professionalism of our roles. For example, Max, the director, did not continuously change the number on the clapperboard when we changed takes. Moreover, he didn't always use the clapperboard when shooting.

Another difficulty we faced was that all of our audio clips were corrupt this meant that we had to re-film our footage. To prevent this from happening again when producing our actual production we should check the SD card is correctly in place.

Moreover, I completed one of my editors' tasks alongside Callum Chung which was to gain permission from certain people to film in different locations, for example our technical tutor Dave Jameson and the motion room.

One of the difficulties that I particularly faced was trying to manage my team. As I stated, they completed a lot of their tasks meaning they didn't have much left to do so I was trying to complete my own work and find tasks for them to complete. To aid this problem in the future, I could assign them with more tasks that may not be their own to take the work load off of myself and other team members.

An issue that I am facing is that our sound operator has still not completed one of his tasks over a week since he was assigned it. In tomorrow's lesson, I aim to get other members of the group to help him so that we can finally get that completed.

Once that has been completed, that will push us forward in terms of pre-production documentation, meaning that we can propose our idea sooner hopefully.

This meeting was essential due to the fact our director abruptly decided to withdraw from the college course during production meaning that we were without one. To rectify this issue, Billy Cleary and I have agreed to be appointed as co-directors in order to make the work load easier for the both of us to handle.

In future this'll aid production as we'll be able to take on the role when necessary, for example Billy needs to take on the role of director when I am not in college tomorrow morning due to my work experience meeting. Our tutor Leila Capocefalo also joined us for the meeting and asked various questions regarding how we were going to handle the production without the director to which we replied confidently with our plans to have Billy and I act as temporary directors for the remainder of the production.

My major tasks for today were to help re-film a particular scene in the advert which included extras due to the fact our camera operator primarily filmed it out of focus. This particular technical issue caused problems for our group as it created unnecessary animosity between our editor and camera operator. In addition to this, I had to adjust some of my task 2 documentation by adding a bibliography to evidence my sources. Tomorrow I aim to finish my print based advert as I made some adjustments to it today, but I was unable to finish it because other tasks with higher priority arose.

Below is my print advert and the adjustments I've made since Friday.

During this meeting my team and I were given information on health and safety and were even allowed to operate a fire extinguisher in case of the event of a fire. Also at this meeting I was shown where I would be working for the majority of the work experience duration. As I'm working on a Young Professionals brief I will be working in a team to create a product for a client and in this case it is a video that will be placed on a artists website which allows potential clients to 'Meet the Artist'.

Sadly we faced one issue because our artist, Mark, was not at Pardon Mill as he was called away last minute to a film set. This meant that we were unable to ask him questions about the video in preparation for production, however we compromised and took photos and videos of his studio and the mill itself so we could prepare a shot list and have photos ready for location recces.

Following this, my team and I had a meeting in a coffee shop where we discussed potential shots we wanted to potentially use in the video. As well as this, we came up with a team name 'Willow Productions', decided on job roles and collated an equipment list.

Once the meeting had finished at 12:30pm I returned back to college. Upon arrival I had my lunch break before going on to editing my print advert. In that afternoon I managed to finish my print advert which I am extremely happy with. Finishing my print advert has meant that I can focus on other aspects of post-production for example more recent meeting minutes and curating a paperwork authentication document for my team to sign to confirm they completed their paperwork.

I faced a few minute problems when using Photoshop in that afternoon, for example one of them was that I forgot which tool I previously used to blur the edges of the secondary image in my print advert. Having said that, with assistance from a fellow classmate Luke we managed to realise that I used the smudge tool. Additionally, I also could not work out how to create a triangular shape on Photoshop; following asking for help from two fellow classmates Billy and Cameron, I worked out how to insert one by using the polygon shape tool and changing the number of sides from 5 to 3 before using the mouse and cursor to create the shape.

I managed to achieve my personal target of completing my print advert which has taken one of my main objectives for this week off of my to do list. To improve next time, I aim to be able to use various Photoshop tools independently from my own knowledge rather than having to ask others for information.

Despite being able to achieve my personal target, I was unable to achieve all of the targets set by my tutor due to the fact I was unable to attend my production team's meeting in the morning because of my work experience meeting. To ensure that my team knew what I wanted them to achieve by the end of today, I created an agenda for them which I forwarded to my tutor via email so that she could give it to them before they conducted the meeting. In addition to this, our editor Billy Cleary took on my role as director and producer for the time that I was not at college.

A student asked us why we didn't particularly show the effects that the bully had on the victim in the advert, to which I responded with my aims to ensure that the content of our advert was not graphic and was suitable for our audience; when conducting primary research I found out that it was important not to include graphic content as it may lead to an advert being banned. One of our tutors then stated how we could have simply included a shot of the empty pill pot as that implies they have been consumed whilst not being too graphic. If I were able to make changes to my advert I would start by including a shot like that.

The majority of the constructive criticism we additionally received was in regards to camera work in the advert. Although I was not the camera operator for our production team meaning I cannot take full responsibility for the poor shots included in our advert, what I could have considered is scheduling in time for my camera operator to familiarise himself with the equipment he would be using in the production.

Following receiving this feedback, I have begun to work on the evaluation for my team by taking their criticisms into consideration.

One of the personal issues I have faced is being unable to concentrate fully as the afternoon part of our lesson was hectic and loud resulting in me gaining a headache. To resolve this problem, I will work on my evaluation during my two study days to improve upon the work I have completed so far.

I have been able to successfully achieve my target of presenting my teams advert to an audience to receive audience feedback. This will help further along in my assessment tasks as it means I'll be able to write an evaluation report on my overall work.

Due to work experience I am unable to attend college for the majority of the day. Therefore, I created an agenda for the rest of my group to follow for the day.

Whilst at work experience I met with my supervisor and the client I would be working for. Callum Anderson and I asked the client questions in regards to the video we would be making for him. After this, we had a team meeting where we began constructing a storyboard for the video. Upon completion of two pages, we returned back to college to have a meeting with the Young Professionals.

When returning from work experience, I worked on my evaluation by making adjustments to what I had already written and asking my tutor Leila questions so that I could improve my work.

As I knew that I was not going to be at college for the majority of the day, I did not have any specific targets for me to complete in regards to my assignment.

My aims and targets for the rest of the week are to complete my evaluation and all other outstanding tasks before my deadline on Friday 9th December.

Set Targets: * Discuss your responsibilities in Team Meeting following the Agenda and logging results.
* Continue to develop the skills of your job role.
* Create your own personal target for the session and review at the end using the active keywords - remember your targets must be SMART.

Personal Target: * Add more to my evaluation and ask specific questions to my tutor to ensure that I am on the right track and am working to the best possible standard.

At the beginning of Tuesday 06th I began working on my evaluation as my team and I could not conduct a team meeting as Mason (our sound operator) was partially absent due to him forgetting his USB stick and having to return home. I felt as if it was unfair to begin the meeting without him seeing as he had already been to college but had to return him upon discovering that he hadn't brought his USB stick in to college.

My team were aware of what they had to complete throughout the day as they had to finish what they hadn't on Monday 05th. When Mason returned, I conducted a team meeting, however Billy did not attend after being told that our meeting was about to begin. In this meeting I discussed how Mason and Callum were to continue on with their evaluations before we had another screening of our advert at 13:30pm.

Callum, Mason and I continued with our evaluations whilst Billy partially edited the video advert. During this time, I successful achieved my target of adding more to my evaluation and asking questions in regards to my evaluation and research, so that I was aware of what I need to improve upon to ensure I am working to the best possible standard.

At 13:30pm we screened our advert to a group of L3 second year students alongside some other L3 first year students and we received audience feedback. This will be extremely helpful in the fact that we can use it to evaluate our advert effectively for task six of our assignment.

Due to the screening taking longer than expected, we were unable to conduct primary research e.g. focus groups or questionnaires as we hoped. So, I aim to come into college on 08/12 to complete a focus group or hand out questionnaires for audience members to fill out so that I have data to use for my evaluation.

This far into post-production, I am finding it is difficult to continue on with my role as producer due to the fact it is coming up to our deadline and the majority of our group are focusing on our evaluations. Therefore, I am unable to discuss our responsibilities and tasks during our team meetings as in depth as I once did during pre-production.

Photo below; Feedback from a second year student. Personally, I found that this was a very difficult task for me to complete as I found the time constraints very stressful. As a result of this my work was not its best, meaning that I was unhappy with the outcome of my evaluation.

In future, I aim to improve on my time management skills so that I do not face this problem again. An example of how I could do this would be by coming into college on a study day to complete work.

By completing this evaluation, I am now aware of the strengths and weaknesses of my production. Following on from this, I can take the points and areas of improvement into mind for when I begin term two. This will hopefully ensure that I do not make the same or similar errors that I made this term.
