In problem-based or project-based settings, students are presented with a task or a project that they must complete or solve without any prescribed methods: they develop their own methods for solving the problem or completing the project. Motivation to acquire any new information that students need or to access any prior knowledge from other domains becomes fundamental for students in this learning setting. Learning for students in the problem or project based setting becomes authentic and students have the opportunity to adapt and practice critical thinking skills that they can apply outside the classroom.
