Vaginal candidiasis , also known as a vaginal yeast infection, is a fungal infection caused by Candida. Candida already lives inside the human body, but sometimes will multiply and cause an infection. The growth of the bacteria is dependent on the environment of the vagina.

Millions of women around the world suffer from recurrent vulvovaginal candiidias, or recurring vaginal candidiasis. In Recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis by Jack D Sobel, talks about how as women use more birth control or hormone replacement medicine, there has been an increase in women getting recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis. Before many women were using birth control, the rate of how many people were affected by RVVC was controlled by menopause. Controlling RVVC is partially possible with fluconazole, there is nothing that cures it.
How Many People Affected by RVVC

Wearing cotton underwear can help reduce the chance of developing a yeast infection. Don't take any unnecessary antibiotics since that can lead to vaginal candidiasis.
Treatment is usually an antifungals medicine that is applied inside the vagina. Sometimes it could be a single dose of fluconazole orally.

Since vaginal candidiasis looks like other vaginal yeast infections , doctors will usually take a small sample of the vaginal discharge and examine it.
Be warned though, sometimes a positive on the fungal culture doesn't mean you'll have symptoms. Some women can have Candida, but not experience any symptoms.
