One of the reasons why tragic elements are widely used in the media is because as heinous as it is, we are more concern and pay more attention to bad news than the good ones. In fact, it has already been scientifically proven that people recognise and react faster to negative words than positive words according to the BBC article "Psychology: Why bad news dominates the headlines". An example is Kurt Cobain's suicide attempt in Rome caused by his tragic flaws, depression and chronic drug use, which drew the attention of millions to the media.

In today's world, the use of tragic elements have become very common in news headlines and the media in general. As we can see, in news channels most of the news are tragic news and they are given more time to explain thoroughly than positive news. The reason for this, is that tragedies tend to attract more people, and media has taken advantage and vilified people's emotions and public character's misfortunes to show famous people's demise. Unfortunately, Kurt Cobain a virtuoso in the music industry, became the media's target after his effusive personality, much like Hamlet's, led him to contemplate committing suicide and have a transient life.

A tragic hero is a commonly used literary character, especially by Shakespeare, that now is being implemented in the media. Nowadays, all celebrities are potential tragic heros; therefore, the media pays attention to their every move until the first sign of a tragic hero appears, hamartia. In this case, their target was Kurt Cobain, the leader of Nirvana. Cobain's harmatia were his bipolar dissorder and his addiction to drugs, which was his way of dealing with his poignant "love/hate relationship with his celebrity status". Cobain's state at this time, reflects Shakespeare faamous charavter Hamlet. In Act 3, Scene 3, Caludius says "I like him not' nor stands it safe with us to let his madness range." While Kurt Cobain was dealing with his convoluted feelings towards his fame, Hamlet was dealing with his obscure resolution to avenge his father. Through this quote it is demonstrated that both of them were dealing with a constant change in personality and their effusiveness towards their current situation was what led them to take the wrong the decisions, and eventually their tragic flaw, the beginning of their downfall.

Once a real life tragic hero's demise has been forseen by the media, they are determined to follow through the process, but most importantly they affect people's view. For instance, when Cobain overdose in Rome, no one called it a suicide attempt until the media did after his death. Whether Cobain's overdose was on purpose or an accident, it is unknown; however, the media used this as an opportunity to superfluous the meaning of his actions in a negative way to create an egregious image of him in people's mind. In addition, when Cobain died, people had divided opinions partly influenced by the media due to the fact that some published his death as a selfish, weak, and uncomprehensible action because he could just have dropped out of the music carreer since he had a lot of money, and others published his death as a grievous and lamentable event, in which a great figure in the music industry had left this world. This moment of grief and hate is called catharsis in the literary world of a tragic hero and now also in the world of the media.

Today, more than 20 years after Kurt Cobain's death, this incident keeps capturing people's attention. About two years ago, new images of Cobain's death and police investigation were released in the media and also the report of the private investigator that had been looling for Cobain before he was found dead. All these new information jas reignated and recaptured the audience's attention because now there are new therories leading to the believe that Cobain was murdered. According to specialists, the "suicide note" was not a good bye from this world but a good bye to his fans regarding music and the only part that gives the idea of suicide does not match Cobain's writing. In fact, those last few words match Courtney's letters found in a practice sheet; therefore rising suspicions about Cobain's wife. Through this new information, the media brings back this tragedy and is changing our tragic hero's tragic flaw.
