In the arts, the specific physical material is dependent on the form of art. In a mosaic, since there are multiple mediums, stones, glass, or other hard materials are used as well as the glue. In this form of art there is research done because often mosaics are present in a religious setting such as a church. In the classic art form, painting, brushes and paints are used. Depending on the type of painting, there can be wood, canvas, paper, etc. for the painting to be on. Masks are generally created with paper and often drawn on with pencil or marker. Jewelry uses a wide variety of materials such as beads, string, wire, glass, etc.
