Music isn't simply just lyrics and a melody. For example, in terms of reading, music is able to aid with phonemic awareness and the fluency of reading. A study done by Hansen and Milligan yielded that music was able to help pause and change speed in (a) phrases, clauses, syntactic boundaries, comma, periods, etc., (b) raise and lower pitch - shows type of sentence/expression, (c) accent and stress syllables/words - demonstrate part of speech and meaning, and (d) vary the tempo (speed) of text to match the mood or emphasize different parts of the text.
