Banksy is the pseudonym of an English-based graffiti artist known for his politically themed and often controversial graffiti. He is a popular political activist and film director who in spite of creating several well-known works of art manages to hide his true identity. His art has been featured on streets, walls, and bridges of cities throughout the world making him a famous international figure.

I will tell you about one of his most popular graffiti: “Girl with Balloon” or “There is Always Hope”. Girl with Balloon, is one of Banksy’s most important works, demonstrating the graffiti stencil technique for which Banksy has become known around the world.

The work depicts a young girl, whose hair and dress are blowing in the wind, reaching for, or releasing, a red, heart-shaped balloon that has slipped from her grasp. The gesture and the red balloon, present a powerful message that can be read in a number of ways. Whether you see the girl as losing the balloon, or about to catch it, the meaning can be interpreted as a loss of childhood or the arrival of new hope and love. This work, which was accompanied by a quotation that read “there is always hope”, originally appeared in London’s Southbank, although it was later painted over by the council. This graffiti was such a success that now we can find 150 “Girl with Balloon” signed prints, and 600 unsigned

On one hand, this graffiti is so simple that you can compare it to the drawings of children. On the other hand, it has such a deep meaning that it makes this graffiti a masterpiece.
Konstantin Makharine
3A

"Rage, the flower thrower" or "Love is in the air" is the most popular graffiti of an english artist, Banksy.
This picture has a poetic and political message.
It appeared in Jerusalem, in 2003. The man in the graffiti is weared as a vandal, but his handkerchief gives a reference to the autor, who wants to be anonymous. The flowers in the man's hands are taken like a stone or a grenade, and Banksy with this grafiti wanted to say: " Don't make war". It is showing the autor's pacifistic ideas.
Vsevolod Volkov 3A

Music soldier

I would like to talk about a picture titled “Music soldier” and created by the famous street artist Banksy, he painted a lot of pictures and I chose this one. Banksy is a anonymous artist who works since 1990 years. And nobody knows his biography.
So I see a soldier shooting with a gun with musical notes. Whole soldier is dark and notes are blue. The soldier stands aiming at the target and notes are scattered on the wall. If I were the passerby I would be surprised, fascinated, but I would not understand what the work is about, because it’s very strange. But his works are very striking because of his colors and the theme of the paintings. And what about the images of children: images of children have more colors are lighter then Banksy’s arts. Banksy likes to paint more with dark colors. But the essence of pictures are similar and describe inequality to something.

Mattias Mekler 3A

Banksy is a graffiti artist. Banksy is just a pseudonym and we know that he was born probably in the 1970s in the Bristol in the UK. He has become famous for his anti-war, anti-establishment and anti-capitalist graffiti stenciled all over the world. He creates images that are relevant to a specific place and time.

We don’t see a lot of fings on the graffiti on the side wall of a Poundland shop because there are in black and white. I can see a little boy who is making something with the sewing machine. He has a cap that he put upside. The flag of England can be seen here but this must be a passan that added it. The graffiti of the boy is very close to the ground and the graffiti is done in such a way that the boy is sitting on the ground.

I think that when there will pass a passer he will look at that like this is a painting of a very famous painter. May be he will put another flag but who knows?

This graffiti is even more striking because there are very close to a very cheap store. May be because the boy can by only there something. And he maybe don’t know that there are may people who are seeing the Olympic games. I think that the boy doesn’t have a TV to see this and have fun with each other.

The graffiti of Banksy is much sadder that the painting of John Brett or of Sir Joshua Reynolds. His graffiti shows the reality better. He even paid attention to the place where he will draw!

Victor Marty 3A

Banksy (by Ben)
“Bansky” is a street artist who shows his famous works in the streets of London. His real name is unknown, but we know he was born in the 1970s or 80s. His graffiti paintings show complex depression and compassion to certain people, groups of people, or races. His works are realistic, but some of them are black and white, so i am pretty sure that nearby civilians would not feel bewildered or befuddled. Nothing better than casually strolling in the streets of London and seeing a realistic painting created by an anonymous street artist.

The Queen as Ziggy Stardust

The painting represents the crown-wearing monarch sporting a jagged red stripe, just like the 1970s David Bowie creation. Ziggy Stardust is a fictional character created by English musician David Bowie.

This artwork was made in 2012, the year in which Queen Elizabeth celebrated her Diamond Jubilee. In the middle of the graffiti we can see Queen Elizabeth with Ziggy Stardust’s make up plastered on her face. The Queen is dressed up and has pearls around her neck, which are clearly shown by Banksy. She wears a giant tiara on her head. It is street art, so the Queen is only in black and white, however Ziggy’s make up is in bright red and blue. Furthermore, Elizabeth II as well as Ziggy, are famous icons, but show different parts of life. The Queen is the head of the monarchy in England and illustrates the power and the kingdom. Thus, Ziggy’s message is simpler and, as I reckon more important, he wishes peace and love.
Vera Ivkina 3A
