Nice 45-second time-lapse value drawing demo from Purdue drawing instructor Matthew McHugh.

Even super-speeded-up, you can see the allover, general-to-specific approach he takes, the way he doesn’t white-knuckle his drawing tool, and doesn’t rub or smudge excessively, so the drawing retains some life and vibrance. He also starts with a toned ground, so all of his value shapes are seen in relation to that middle tone.

Quick tonal drawing tutorial, still life using graphite: Jesse van der Laam

I also like this one by Jessie van der Laam (3:54). Material and technique are a little different from what we’re doing now in class, but general ideas and advice are very relevant. It’s the first few minutes of a sketchbook study of a still life grouping, with emphasis on seeing value shapes and looking at shape and value relationships. She’s using a soft graphite pencil.

This is a longer video - it's all good, but you'll find the sections on value and on reductive drawing techniques at 14:30 to about 18: 30, and 21:30 to around 25:40, respectively. Lieu teaches in RISD's summer pre-college programs, so some of her videos are pitched more at that level, but I think they're still great for most people in intro college-level classes.
