Curriculum refers to the academic content that should be taught. The objectives of a discipline guides the educator in planning lessons. Personally, it focuses me to strategize means of instruction. I try to maintain a level of independent thought when viewing curriculum so that I can put my own pedagogical spin on it.

Curriculum is a blueprint of what my students need to learn and what needs to be covered in a specific class, what is the specific essential knowledge and skills my students will need to be successful in my class and future math classes. It guides my instructional decisions throughout the year. I look at the curriculum provided and expand on it as much as I can to broaden my kids' knowledge. When looking at the curriculum, I keep on mind what my students should already know and also what they will be required to know the following school year so I can thigh it all together.
~ Marina S.

As mentioned by other group members, curriculum is a blueprint that outlines and describes the content students should be exposed to and guide student exploration. It is information and specific skills students should master within a grade level to prepare them for application of information outside of the classroom.
I use the curriculum to guide my instruction when planning a variety of learning opportunities. I keep in mind the vertical curriculum standards to ensure that I am aware of the knowledge students are exposed to from previous years and what they are expected to understand for future grade levels. Knowing vertical alignment allows me to close any gaps that may be present in curriculum.
- Megan H.

I view curriculum as a blueprint or map in which is used to guide me in my instructional planning. Regardless of grade level or content area, a rich curriculum is needed in order for students to reach a desired outcome. How am I going to get from point A to point B in my instruction? The strategies implemented in my classroom will allow students to navigate that path. While our curriculum is often dictated by specific standards I have the flexibility of choosing my teaching methods. The standards (SOL's) serve as my foundation then I will build upon those within my instructional planning.
-Derek H.
