After colombus returned to spain he went back to the island of Hispaniola with 17 ships and 1,200 men looking for gold but didnt succeed so instead they took women and children as slaves for sex and labor. Put yourself in the shoes of those girls, those shipmates. Those native peoples who were all treated horribly during his “era” and those who still are being treated horribly even to this day. Imagine being out there, anywhere in the world just knowing that there’s some man who caused all this trouble onto you, your nation, your people that others in the world still have the audacity to celebrate. That his name has its own holiday. Knowing that it’s wrong. Everything about it. Everything about him. It’s awful. It’s unfair. It’s disgusting. Changing the holiday to indigenous people day not only will it be better and the right decision but it also doesn’t focus on just one person but a whole variety of people who will be getting their justice.

Even though this may cause some people to be upset and have hurt feelings, I think it's only right given the amount of people hurt then and still hurt now by Christopher Columbus's actions.

I get that on Columbus day Italian people celebrate their culture but I think they should get their own holiday made rather than celebrate Columbus day because Columbus was a rapist, a murderer, a colonizer, and he was selfish; he didn’t care about anyone else but himself getting money and fame.

I'm sure you're aware of Christopher Columbus Journey. I mean, they teach us this in school. But they don't teach us about what Christopher Columbus did. Christopher Columbus went on too native land. Full of Indigenous people and stole it. He thought they were Indians at first. But not caring, and wanting money and credit. He murdered, raped, tortured. Americas first act of terrorism started with Christopher Columbus. Even then he did mean to find america. He was lost at sea, just a coincidence.

So far, we’ve learned about Maslow's Hierarchy Of Needs and the Breath of Life Theory. I decided to write to you because I wanted to share my concerns about Columbus Day. I wanted to share why I believe that Columbus Day should be changed to Indigenous Peoples Day.

I believe this because it would be a respectful thing to do. Christopher Columbus was born in 1451, in Italy. He died May 20, 1506. He was a sailor and he specifically sailed for Spain. He ended up sailing in search of Indians and he never found them. Since he didn’t know the Native Americans weren’t Indians, he was called Indians. It made the Native Americans upset. Another thing is he was a rapist, he committed genocide, he owned slaves, he sold girls as young as 9, and so much more. This has affected the Native American community.

I believe that if we celebrate a day that recognizes a group that has been through tough times and got through them. I don’t believe that we should be celebrating a day dedicated to a person that has committed so many crimes and got away with it for the most part. I think that it would have a positive impact on Massachusetts, especially because Massachusetts has a past with the Native Americans. Indigenous people deserve respect. They should be able to feel welcome. This would have a great impact on our society.

People defending Columbus don't have a real argument because even aside from the things that Columbus did that he was celebrated for, he was a terrible person. Even when he was not committing genocide, he was a terrible person. For example, he was not the first European who came to America--the Vikings were. Columbus never even set foot on American soil.
