It’s one of the oldest group of houses in the United States! The tribes of the Southwest do not have much rain so they make houses out of the rocks around them. The members of the Southwest, the Pueblo, the Mogollon, and the Hohokam built big cities carved into the cliffs and created advanced canals to water crops all the way out in the desert. Almost all of the Southwestern tribes, which later spread out into presentday Arizona, Texas, and Mexico, can trace their ancestry back to these ancient civilizations. 
           But there were two exceptions. The Apache tribe and the Navajo. The two powerful Southwest tribes moved into the region from the Arctic between  the year 1200 and 1500. They were hunters who followed their hunt all the way to the Southwest.

The mug might have been used to carry chocolate in and out of Choco. Beginning about 500 A.D. Ancestral Puebloans painted black designs on vessels like this mug. The jars have been found in Choco and they had bits of chocolate shards inside. This festival looks fun and the painting is brightly colored. The girl having the ceremony also joined the army! It is really interesting because this ceremony is similar to the puberty ceremony people have in Mexico!
