This quote from a song Lose Yourself by Eminem really speaks to me and I find this important to me because sometimes in life “you only get one shot” and with that one shot you have to try your best. If you don’t succeed, then you just need to move on with your life. This relates to me in many ways because there were many opportunities that I had a shot at but I ended up completely blowing it. An experience that I had was when I was running to be the Vice President of the Lynbrook Pre-Med Club. In order to become an officer, I was required to attend every meeting and every event that was hosted by the Pre-Med Club, which was what I did every week as a Junior. Being enthusiastic to become an officer, I also created a PowerPoint presentation talking about myself as a person, and when presenting in front of the whole club, I began to have stage fright and was stuck in most parts. I started to become dehydrated, stammering whenever I would forget what to say, praying people wouldn’t notice. Flashback even further to the night before where I would say my lines over and over again, perfecting the flow and speed of my words. Safe to say rehearsing it to all my stuffed animals lined up was a breeze. Throughout my high school career, there were many moments when both my parents weren’t at home because they had work, so my sister and I have to make our own rules to take care of ourselves and our home. Since I was the older sibling, I would be the one who would make up the rules at the house, like who does what chore. There was many chores I had to do throughout the house, like doing the laundry and washing the dishes., so what I did was we wrote down all the things we had to do on a piece of paper and split the work amongst both of us. The planning itself takes about 10 minutes, and we would do our own chores. You taught me many life lessons throughout my life and making me into a stronger individual. Thank you for being there for me on my worst times and resolving the problems. You have finally left Miller Middle School and now attending Lynbrook High School, congrats! Now that you are now a high school student, remember that your grades are very important and will reflect to which college you will be going to. Try to do as much extra curricular activities as you can, mainly things you like to do. Also, make sure you try out many sports, including water polo, volleyball, and track & field so you will be familiar to which sport will fit you best. Also, try to attend clubs, like DECA. Most of my friends are in the DECA club and they are having a blast. Although there is a lot of work, you will have fun traveling to other places with your friends and competing with other schools. This will look good in your college application and you will have a lot of memories and make a lot of friends across the nation. Also, try to aim for an A in all your classes, and try not to procrastinate. If you procrastinate, you'll accumulate a lot of work towards the end and it will be really stressful to complete all your assignments. Also a good way to keep up your grade is to get a good study group, people who you are friends with and are valuing education, not the ones who are goofing off. Most of all, have fun! It is also really important to have fun throughout your high school career because you will make a lot of memories that you can reflect back when you are older. Next step in life is getting your masters degree, so make sure you have a high GPA and get into some internships, and try to update your resume. With a good transcript and resume, try to apply to your dream colleges, like University of Southern California and UC Santa Barbara. I know you can do it and I can see that you will be successful one day. After college, I hope you'll get a good job at Cisco, Microsoft, Oracle, or Google where you can strive as an individual to success. I would love to live in Southern California near Los Angeles or stay in the Bay Area, where the weather is fantastic and the economy is increasing.
