Conference with students from across the room using Google Docs. You can keep an eye on students as they're writing and add comments/ give them things to work on.

Fast finishers could use a checklist of things to do when done, something

based off of success criteria. Where can I go from here? How many words can I change? Etc.

Give the students something specific to look for

when they finish writing. e.g. hilight your transitions,

prepostions, adjectives, etc... If matched with the

mini-lesson it can be a quick assessment.

For students that struggle with fine motor planning use technology like co-writer to help them get their ideas out.

If you challenge students to sustain

writing for a specific time, they will rise to that occasion.

Sustaining writing is something that has to be gradually developed,

just like reading.

I use "experts" for students to utilize each other instead of needing the teacher. In addition, each student has an assigned writing partner throughout the year to share with and offer help. This has significantly helped with classroom management.
