In my opinion, Principles define all the base of truth. Our beliefs are grounded in coherent reasoning according of parent's teaching. Normally family are composed by parents and children; in another words "Nuclear family". In some cases the dysfunctional family carry to wrong way.
For that reason, principles are ideas of a conduct, that guides us to have any specific behaviour according to every different experience lived.
Principles are ideals won't change ever, and will keep as part of our personality.
For example, The Holy Bible. Despite there are people who don't believe in God, the God's word will exist for ever, and it is part of a principle. The beliefs, and the believer will exist forever.

As for the principles in my opinion it is quite similar to the values too. In other words, we have to have certain principles to know how to act correctly in certain situations.
