Unfortunatelly in Greece there are no mentors at schools. However, older and more experianced teacher can offer their help when neccessary.

I expected a positive approach and help . Unfortunately, my mentor was not interested in cooperation so my colleagues used to be my support. They shared with me their positive practices and tips. Their advice and encouragement have helped me a lot. It is good to be surrounded by reliable and friendly colleagues who are supportive.

I think it will be the best if my mentor could watch some of my lessons and after doing that spend some time with me talking about ways to improve my teaching. For me a mentor should also be a person to which I can go whenever I have a problem for example with misbehaving children.

In Turkey we have mentors for the first year but they usually help you with the school documentation jobs like how to take attendence,how to enter the information (exams,activities,projects etc.)to e-school system. They dont help you in teaching and managing classrooms practically

I our education system, the teacher will be supervised by an inspector who organizes workshops and trainings, teachers help each other, and exchange their experiences. Each new teacher may have lessons from these colleagues. the mentor is our inspector he gives advices and help teachers

-- helps with orientation how the school works
- is willing to give me advice about difficult situation in class (problematic pupils, their misbehaviour, class management, how to get attention, how to be respected)
- gives tips what methods, activities uses, what works
- at least sometimes tells me that I do my job well, that I am a good teacher (or at least that I am on a good way)
- goes to my lesson and gives me feedback earlier than 3 months afte beggining of the school year
- and propably a lot more...

I regret that I did not have as mentor so Mrs. Cristina Nicolaita in my first year of education. I think from a mentor I am waiting for guidance to make mistakes and clever advice on the use of teaching methodes and new technologies.

I think it's important to have a mentor not only when you're a newly appointed teacher but also when you are an experienced teacher as well. On your teaching journey you always encounter some problems and it's easier if you can share it with someone who can support you and give advice, it can be a mentor, your colleague or even your headmaster.

in Turkey we have mentor teachers in the first year of teaching, they are more experienced teachers. i am also take a course about being a mentor teacher, and in the light of my experiences the key role of this situation is asking questions to the mentors. A new teacher should ask questions about everything to the mentor. Since there are a lot of questions, a mentor has to be ready for the questions, s/he must improve himself/herself about new trends of teaching and technology.

In my opinion, the mentor must help the new teacher to find his/her way and learn the rules of the school. Also, h/she can supply different kinds of materials such as books, videos,ppts etc. which can help the newbies to improve themselves.

I actually had two mentor teachers in my first year because I was teaching in two different schools. However, they were already very old and they will soon retire. So they don't have a clue about new technology in the classroom and couldn't support me or give me any advice when I used these methods. They just said that I can try new methods but they were not interested or open to innovation. After some time I was frustrated and not interested in sharing information with them. I felt like there is a whole world between us and I will definitely teach completely different to them.
What I would expect from a good mentor teacher is that they are open-minded and interested to try out new teaching methods.

I used to work in a secondary school.But this year I started to work in a high school.So I didn't know procedures very well.We are five English teachers in the school.And all of them are so helpful to me.One of them turns to me whenever I need or when I have a problem.She told me how they prepare the exams how she acts to the students who have disciplinary problem.Those kind of supports contributed to my teaching life.

I would find very helpful if there was a collegue, a school counsellor or a principal avaliable in times of frustration.
Definately, I need advice on how to keep my lessons in time, how to deal with challenging kids and anxious parents, how to find resourses and prepare lessons without wasting too much time.
It would be nice to feel that there is a person to listen to your worries, understand you and be willing to help you overcome the difficulties an feel empowered.
