There are so many memories I could write pages. One memory that is dear to my heart. In Sept 1968 EJJB gathered us for our 1st track meeting. It was at that meeting that he announced that there will be 2 co-captains this year. Steve Cox and myself. I felt such a great honor. After the meeting, Ed asked Steve and I to stay. He said " I chose the both of you because of your commitment to running and your leadership abilities. I expect great things from you both. Now get out of here and do 10= 220 sprints". I still smile when I remember that moment

Eddie and I were next door neighbors as teens in Astoria, Queens. Running was always his thing. Often, as some of us would be playing various games on the street, here would come Eddie out of his apartment building & sprint away. A milestone of our growing up on 33rd Street was that some of us joined the Presbyterian Church's social teen group. No, we did not change religions. There were no girls our age growing up on our block, but there were many that attended the Presbyterian Church in the middle of that block. Many great friendships were created there that lasted many years. The social aspect of the group continued and evolved as we grew from the ice cream parlor on Broadway and pizza on 31st Street to various adult watering holes in the neighborhood. Eddie played an important role in maintaining those friendships. He organized the "Non-Annual 33rd Street Reunion" every few years and held it at those same watering holes of our youth.

Ed was a great friend and track/XC colleague for some 50 years. One memory is meeting Ed by chance at the start of the 1976 NYC Marathon, the first through the five boroughs. While much faster than me, Ed chose to keep me company for the first 16 miles, running ahead only after we crossed the Queensborough Bridge into Manhattan. We talked track the whole way, and I benefitted from the rousing reception given Ed when we passed Loughlin High, and the band played on. While I was not much of a marathoner, I managed to run my best time that day, thanks to Ed. We shared countless other memorable experiences over the years. Prayers to Ed's family.
