My initial thoughts on the book are that is rather advanced for its time, and is definitely a stand for its time. In my opinion emma I rather stuck up and thinks too highly of herself. I think it's great that she is choosing to go in her own path and go against what the normal thing was in her time.

The book Emma is definitely a product of its time, from the writing style of Jane Austen to the themes that she covers. Emma, the character, comes off as what I would think is exactly how Austen wanted her to be. As for Volume 1 as a whole, I feel that this is the setup for the rest of the novel, in the same way that "A New Hope" sets us up for the next two movies. As I said before though, this book is a product of its time, back in a time where apparently humans had longer retention spans. As a consequence of this, I find it difficult to distinguish side characters in Emma from a plain brick wall. None of them pop out at me, because it's somewhat difficult to follow the story.

My initial impressions of the novel is that it is well written and so far is setting up some great drama to come in the second part. Emma is a character that to me seems to be ahead of her time in a sense that she could be a strong independent woman. Something that has stood out to me in the novel is the fact that everyone seems to be wanting to be apart of her life and are always in her business. Which I know is kind of the society they live in but it just doesn't make much sense to me why.

After reading volume one, I have come to the conclusion that my initial thoughts on Emma are extremely positive. I admire the way Emma stands out from society. So many people are limited to a certain opinion and she isn't afraid to have opinions that are different from those in her society, which to me, is very admirable. Emma is a character who wise and way ahead of her time. In my opinion, she is the definition of feminism.

The book is a beautifully written novel showing us a glimpse of how the Victorian era was for a women . It was advanced for its time considering the main character who is not the typical women for the Victorian age. Emma is very independent , smart and beautiful. Making it hard for her to find a man of her standards. The volume is how the book is unraveling and begin to make the book more interesting

Volume one as a whole painted an appropriate picture of what that era of time were to look like. The Victorian era is one that I as an individual disagree with. The event that stands out to me the most is the whole situation that is in the midst of occuring with Mr.knightly because it opens a whole bunch of discussions about that time period.
