What is the Power of Society?Well the power of society is about that about the power it has over us. Society determines our future more than we can even think. Many of us say “Nobody has power over us than ourselves” but that is not true, we change without even noticing. As society evolves we along get use and adapt to all the changes without noticing. Everyday something changes in society and by saying society I don’t only mean us humans but also the environment and anything in it, but as something new comes up we want to get it and fit in the new something. That is the power of Society on us it helps us to adapt to the changes and new things.

In my perspective I do think that society has the power to change us. I think that society has the power to change our attitudes, behaviors, and even beliefs. I have seen how people from the old generation have changed and adapt to now. People from the Mestizo and Maya and other cultures have changed their traditions and not only that but also their clothing. There are also people that do not want to change however they end up doing it without even realizing it. All of us have changed in one way or the other it may not be so obvious but we have changed, society has made us change, it does has a great power on us.

The Functionalist perspective presented by Durkheim mainly talks about the social institutions and the importance of each one of them in society. He explained and believe that each if the social institutions are very important there is not one that is least important. If one of these institutions were out then it would affect the other ones. For example if education was taken out then the work force would also be affected because people would no longer be accepted uf they don’t have an education which will to affect the economy and eventually end up affecting security. He believe that all of these are very important to maintain equilibrium in society.

My perspective towards this is that it is true. In our daily lives we can see how this model of the social institutions are important and that it is true that this helps to maintain equilibrium in society. We can see how the people with no education are struggling to get a job there are many persons that because of this they become to do crime like stealing and even worst killing also to have money for their survival. This is why I think that Durkheim’s perspective is true because we can all see it on our daily live.

Youth and Adult Culture

Youth culture is define by how adolescents live, the style of how the adolescents live this includes their traditions, norms, values and also practices while adult culture is the way that the older people live. Youth culture is about the things that the young adults share their similarities for example clothing/dressing styles, music, sports, language and many more. These are what makes them and what defines them as a culture because they have many things in common. Adult in the other hand is almost the same thing, what differentiates them from the youths is that they don’t follow or are involve in the things that the youths are, the older generation still follow their same traditions and practices. The adults don’t do the things that the young adults do in fact many of the adults see the things from teens as something that is not normal or should not be allowed, they see these things negatively. This is the reason why there are two types of culture because don’t fall under the same things.

In my opinion, I think that they these two cultures were classified are correctly. The new and old generation are totally different. All the things from back then have changed and the younger people see it as something good but the older ones think the opposite. All or majority of the young generation have a lot of things in common and as I said before the adults perspective towards our practices and norms are negative, well most of the adults. I think it was a good idea to classify all of us differently when it comes to this, because all of us would not fit in correctly we are all different in one way or the other especially when comparing us the teen with the adults.

A role is the expected behavior to status an individual has, and a status is any social position a person has. For example me, my status are student, daughter, and aunt these are my statuses and my role will be to behave and act as a student, daughter, and aunt. There are three types pf roles which are; role set, role conflict and role strain. Role set is very self explanatory these are the set of roles that person have according to their status. Role conflict is when people find themselves pulled in various directions as they try to respond to the many statuses they hold. Role strain is the tension caused by demand of a single status.

In my opinion I think that Roles play a very important part in the social interaction topic as it helps us individuals/students to learn to interact in social situations. I think that roles can change our personalities as we can mature more and make better decisions in our future for a status we will get in the future for example as a manger or employee, some of us still don’t hold that status as yet so with this topic we can practice to manage our roles so we don’t go through any problem for future statuses.

When we talk about culture we think that it is about our ethnicity but no it is something more than that. Culture is the way a society lives, there norms and beliefs, practices anything that is similar between the individuals in a society. It is not only about their ethnicity, yes ethnicity plays a role of course in culture but it is not mainly only about that. It links us to our past generation and help and shapes us for our future. There are two types of culture which are material and non material culture. Material culture are the physical/ tangible that a society produce such as, tools and non material culture are the intangible things for example religion and traditions. In conclusion, culture is the way, the similarities and practices that a society have.

With this topic I have learned about what culture is,because before when someone use to tell me the word “culture” I thought about ethnicity the mestizos mayas and those ones. Now I known what the real meaning and what culture is about, and I can know correct the persons who use culture as ethnicity and not only that but also tell them more about Culture. Something else that I realize about culture is that it guides us for our future, all the components from our ancestors left us also help us. We can also learn to communicate and understand others with the use of this topic because we now know that we can be different in somethings with others.
