My students were able to dive into this when they were presented with an open ended prompt that led to their discussion of problems that students at P.S. 176 face and steps to solve them. They used a few forms of technology ( padlet, show me app, TED talks) to learn and present information.

Measure of Success/ Outcomes:
- Students demonstrating proficient use of technology through specific skill/ assignment
-Lessons and created and completed - blueprint of a buddy to help ESL students

It will be useful to try the implement these strategies and resources for future projects.

One of my goals was to time manage and fit more STEM into my day. In completing the TC TECH project, it gave me the opportunity to work more with my students on being creative and thinking outside the box.
One of the content areas that stood out during this project was Social Studies. Students read books, articles, and watched videos on rules, laws, and safety. They brainstormed and planned ideas they could use to create and design a prototype for pedestrian safety. Many of my students gained a better understanding of each part of STEAM and the engineering design process. My students had to opportunity to take the information they gained to have discussions and create a popplet for Problems related with Pedestrian Safety and Solutions related with Pedestrian Safety.
I measured students learning through discussions, rubrics, and checklists.
For next steps, I hope to continue to include STEM throughout my daily routines. I plan to work on my goals and with my students to improve my knowledge and students understandings of STEM and the Engineering Design Process.

One of my goals was to manage time with collaborating with TC workshop model and this STEM project using ALL the subjects. I was able to create student-led teaching groups for different parts of this project (engineering, creating, designing) for students who needed more assistance. During this time, I also formed small groups to add their ideas onto Popplet using the limited ipads we had. It was a great way to end these lessons with discussions and shares of what was implemented.

Brainstorming and planning was a big contribution to creating these designs for the prototype. Students had a better understanding of the project when giving background information of the project.

Through this learning experience, I was able to deepen my understanding of the use of technology in classroom practices. Specifically, I was able to reach my initial goal of incorporating different types of technology within daily teaching practices and especially while working on the project. I was able to do so by recognizing that technology is more than just devices with outlets. Some examples of the technology used are videos, informational books, pencils and post- its.
I also believe that I was able to determine students' background knowledge appropriately and effectively during the implementation of the project through deep peer and whole class discussions about the related topic.
In the future, I hope to continue fulfilling these goals in order to enhance my teaching practices.

The content area that stood out to us that resulted in a growth area or change of thinking towards meaningful STEM integration was ELA because the students did a majority of their work on research lessons during which they researched animal shelter articles online, read through the articles and practiced note-taking in different forms (i.e.boxes and bullets, and dialectical journal) based on the structure of the different texts, and jotted their findings on their Padlets with images. In addition,, another content area that stood out to us that resulted in growth was Math because the next segment of lessons required them to create a blueprint for their animal shelter housing unit, where they practiced finding area, dimensions, perimeter, and unit conversions.

The activity that contributed memorably to our learning was the students’ research lessons during which they found very shocking and devastating facts and videos about animal shelter conditions that they could then improve on for their project.

One take-away that we can share that contributed to our design work this year was that we realized that STEM projects are very engaging for out students, and it was very memorable and fun for them to work on this project.

The technology tools we used were the following: Padlet; and different sketching apps. We noticed that they managed really well on both tools, and were very adept at jotting their notes and making their sketches. They faced a few challenges in their getting comfortable with the different interfaces of all the apps.

REFLECTION:
Is there an individual goal you met or made progress towards? If so, take note of the goal, think of an example of how you reached it or how you are making progress.

→ The individual goal that I met and made progress towards was creating a transdisciplinary “curriculum & instruction that promotes student-centered inquiry, problem-based learning, & teacher collaboration.” I met this individual goal by using the UbD lesson-planning framework so that students could manage the lessons more fluidly. For next year's project, I think I might try having each partnership work on a separate mini-topic in a broader umbrella topic so that there can be more student-led components and independence to drive their learning.

As the unit started, I realized that reading can be integrated meaningfully not just to meet non-fiction reading goals, but to get kids to learn about social issues through literature.

Having the kids survey other third graders to see what social issues students at PS 176 care about was really cool. It got kids engaged in learning and applying math standards in a real life setting. This helped me see how powerful real life application can be for kids and how it really gets them excited to learn.

Some take-aways are:
-kids are able to use technology meaningfully when it is explicitly taught.
-kids are enthusiastic and engaged in learning when they see a real-life purpose

We used Padlet, Smart Notebook, and videos. It surprised me how quickly the kids caught on to using technology.

One of my major goals was to meaningfully integrate technology and different content areas to create an authentic, meaningful units. I think that I am on the way to meeting this goal, but I don't think I'm fully there yet.

Students learned to use the program padlet to document their vision. They also have used the internet to research effectively. They learned not to plagiarize and how to search for photos that are labeled for reuse.

I also wanted to create more opportunities for transdisciplinary projects.
