They are baked together to form the finished article. The quality ownership are owned by the designers who are responsible to create the design for each of the furniture. They make sure that their product are of high quality before they can mass produce the product with a lower price. Other than that, their quality improvement team which is the designer tested the product to make sure the product is quality assured. Besides, they have cleverest robots in their factory to help with the flat packaging so that they can save a lot of manpower and time. The robots can package 720 packages per hour and work 24 hours per day. In addition, the business process reengineering practised by IKEA is that their designer keep rethinking and redesign the furniture to make sure their quality and productivity is assured.

The first is it being packaged by robots. By doing this, 720 packages can be packaged within a day for everyday in a year. Other than that, IKEA produces its products using recycled sawdust. This shows the customers that IKEA does not take lightly pollution. By recycling sawdust, IKEA is directly ensuring less pollution in the environment. Next, IKEA does quality check upon its prototype to ensure the best customer experience. IKEA would have workers to inspect whether or not the products could withstand its test. Once approved, IKEA would the mass produce the product. Furthermore, IKEA produces good quality product at a cheap price. This is to ensure that the customers can afford the products. Not only that, IKEA also makes sure that their products are easy to assemble. By doing this, the customers would not have a hard time to assemble the products and would not opt to buy other products instead. Last but not least, IKEA has a massive storage unit to store the products. Having a massive storage unit ensures that the products are kept by themselves. Therefore, the risk of having their products jeopardise is lower.

There are some of the cleverest robots around inside their factory, these robots handle any shape and size of the item and flat packs 720 an hour and work 24 hours every day in a year. Flat packing is essential to keeping prices down, there’s money saved in storage and transportation but there’s also provide an affordable price for furniture to their customers. They have a big scale of storage to satisfy the huge demand of the flat-pack furniture from their customers. To make sturdy good-looking furniture which can be mass- produced flat packed and easily assembled it, produce it quickly and cheaply, just as important as the look it has to be easy to transport and assemble so complicated fixture and fittings are abandoned and replaced by the flat pack furniture. To provide high- quality goods and services to their customers, they make a prototype, the craftsman of construction centre make one for every single item of furniture, the prototype chair is sent to the test centre and have lot of test on its quality , test how much pressure it can withstand before tipping over, how often it can be sat upon without the joints breaking, how it’ll cope with being knocked over if it passes, it’ll be set to this factory to mass-produce. It really proves their high-quality management throughout the operation processes.

It has become the largest furniture retailer since at least 2008. This large company has create many different website for their potential customers to make online business transaction and each website contains about 12000 products and closer to the IKEA range.
In our opinion, the IKEA can ensure total quality management through out the operation process by using the method of goods operations (goods production) that mean producing tangible products such as furniture, table , chair and desk. The operation process is a set of methods and technologies used to produce a good or a service. This
IKEA company has also use make-to- order operations that are known as activities for one of a kind or custom made production or on other words are special order of furniture and it has also use the method of make-to-stock operations that mean sell the ready assemble stock to customers.
The other reason that IKEA can manage good quality of the product is by using real of fully material in order to produce their furniture or product and from this video you can see that the IKEA workers have do an experiment to test whether the product is stable or not stable by push down the white chair to the floor. This IKEA are also can make sure the process that use to produce their product will do not cause pollution to the environment. Based on the result , that shows the machine in the factory can produce 720 packages of product in a day. Beside that, at the last step we can see that each complete package of product will send to the huge warehouse of the industry to keep safety by using the vehicle to carry and each product has put different code because this code can make them to know which package will sell out today even for the arrangement and also the date of delivery out. Therefore , the percentage of having their bad or trouble products will become lower and their sales of company will also increase.

Value-Added Analysis is process of evaluating all work activities, materials flows, and paperwork to determine the value that they add for customers. For example, IKEA have a very systematic process for each of their product to ensure its quality. As a first process of creating a high quality, easily assembled, and good looking furniture, the designers of IKEA will design their product on computer. Then, they will make a prototype which they use to test the product to ensure the quality. The prototype is sent to the test center to be checked on certain aspects. (example: pressure that it can withstand). After it has been approved, IKEA will finally sent the prototype to be mass produced. If it is not approved it will undergo another tool of quality management which is process reengineering to improve quality and productivity. Furthermore, they also ensure the quality of their flat pack furniture with the help of robots which can pack 720 packs in just an hour. Through these processes we also can see the cooperation between many work areas in IKEA to produce a high quality product.

The next tool used by IKEA is by getting closer to the customer. IKEA know what their customers want in the products they consume. For example, they provide their products at a cheap price. For instance, IKEA flat pack their product to save money in storage and transportation. They also produce their products at a very big scale to lower their product’s price.

Last tool used by IKEA is improving its environmental performance based on ISO 14000. For example, they use recycled items such as recycled sawdust in production of their product.

The Supply Chain of IKEA is a Make to Stock (MTS) as against the Just in Time method (JIT). Prior to adapting its global Supply Chain approach the stores and departments were saddled with placing orders themselves since the system was forecast based, this led to stock outs, creating the Bull whip effect scenario in the movement of items; where either too much or too little stock was ordered (Holmberg, NA). The present IKEA Supply Chain Management System is designed so that the company controls and handles its own designing, manufacturing, warehousing and even retailing. Furthermore, the retail outlets serve as the warehouse stores with customers at times walking through to pick up their goods and to pay at its exit tills . IKEA has established a lasting relationship with its raw material suppliers seeing the growth of many of them, over the years, being due to the company. IKEA’s products are packed by automated Flat Pack machines and transported to distribution centres. From there they are taken to the Warehouse which is linked to the retail stores. The customers are part of the IKEA supply chain, visiting the warehouse to pick up their goods and assemble the furniture themselves.

To do so, when they are designing a brand new model, they always consider these features so that their products would not consist too many parts to be assembled and at the same time, the products must be sturdy enough.

2)After designing a new model, Ikea makes a prototype and sends to the company's test center for testing. For examples, the chair model is tested to find out how much pressure it can withstand before it topples, how much it can be sat on without breaking and so on to ensure the safety of the end users.

3)Once the model passes the test, the mass production begins. Ikea emphasises on efficient and low cost production. To do so, the company uses smart robots that can handle any shape and size of items to flat-pack the product. The robots operate non-stop and basically each of them can handle 720 products per hour. It is an amazing speed as compared to workers who can only finish packing 20 products per hour. Ikea also use eco friendly materials to make their products such as they use recycle plastic to make the chairs.

4) Last but not least, the company has an excellent storage system and a well-organised transportation system because they manage to store a large amount of goods and transport them at the same time to different chain stores all over the world. Mistakes such as shortage of certain products or the postpone of products launching can happen if there is a single mistake done in these systems. Ikea is a company that truly cares for its customers because it not only sells its products at a reasonable price, it also always redesign the products to improve the quality of products so that the customers can get the best products.

There are 5 tools in which commonly used for TQM which are value added , quality improvement team, getting closer to customer , ISO series and business process reengineering.

Firstly, IKEA uses the tool; Value-added Analysis. This is a process of evaluating all work activities, materials flows, and paperwork to determine the value that they add for customers. As such, IKEA designs their furniture by being very careful and clever in every choice they make so that the price is still in lowest yet adding loaded value to their customer.

Other than that, IKEA uses the tool; quality improvement team which collaborative groups of employees from various work areas work together to improve quality by solving common shared production problems. Designer must make sure this furniture needs to be dead simple. It should be possible to produce it quickly and cheaply, just as the look it has to be easy to transport and assemble. The craftsman of the construction center make one for every single item of furniture. Tester (test center) see how much pressure it can withstand before tipping over and how often it can be sat upon without the joints breaking and how it’ll cope being knocked over. If it pass, it will be sent to the factory (producer) to be mass-produced.

Next is to get closer to the customer in which IKEA have to know what their customer preference in the product they consume. IKEA provides a lower price for high quality products. For instance, they used flat packing,it is the most effiecient ways to set the product price at a low price. IKEA have flat pack the furniture within the help of robots in which thay can pack 720 packs per hour. This totally can sell their product at a large scale at a cheap price due to the less-used of cost and transportation during the processes

Process re-engineering involves the design and analysis of processes and workflows within a firm. In order to enhance customer service, become competitive and reduce operational costs. Since its establishment, IKEA has been at the forefront in transforming its operations in order to optimize business performance. For instance, IKEA use robots to settle down the flat packing works. Before this, IKEA only manage to flat packing about 20 items an hour by human hand, yet these robots managed to flat packing of any shapes and items about 720 an hour. In this regard, the firm focuses on quality and price, function and design, and health and environment during the product design and development phase.

Last tool used by IKEA is improving its environmental performance based on ISO 14000. For example, IKEA use recycled sawdust to produce their products. This show that IKEA is concern about their responsibility to the environment

For example, they tested the limit of the pressure that the chair can withstand, not only that they also calculate the amount of times the chair can be seated before they worm out and also last but not least , how can they cope when being knocked over. Once the tests are complete and the furniture is able to go through all of them, they would be sent to the factory to be mass produced.

Last but not least, IKEA also produce quality and reliable products at a cheapest price as possible to ensure that the customer is able to afford them.

They also test their products thoroughly before releasing it to the market.

IKEA also uses getting closer to the customer tool. They put their customers preferences in mind and design their products. Besides that, their products are also lower in price and their packaging are flat packaging. It involves the design and analysis of processes and workflows within the firm. Bu this, operational cost can be reduced. An example to be cited is IKEA uses robots for packaging. This reduces the number of manpower and production expenses greatly. Also, the packaging can be done in a faster rate and massive amount.
