I gave them questions on the board and asked them to work in groups to get solutions. The students talked within their groups but the solutions and collaboration wasn't marked and there was no end product and the end. 

High level- In a science class we were doing the experiment on radiation as a transfer of heat energy. The students were put into groups and then they assigned tasks for themselves for the experiment. Using some guidance from the teacher they carried out an experiment trying to find the best type of can for radiating heat. They gathered their own data and came up with heir own conclusions as to which can was best and gave a short presentation at the end of the class to showcase their procedure, results and conclusion. With my cooperating teacher we gave a grade for entire group for their experiment and their presentation as a small percentage of their summer exams. The rubric simplifies the process of figuring out the level of collaboration of your lesson. You can do an outline of your lesson and use the rubric to then improve the level of collaboration between students but going through your lesson step by step.
