Ripple Effect

A black and white photo consist of a hand touching a puddle. The puddle reflects the shape and form of the hand touching it causing a ripple. As a result of the contrast from the puddle of water created a deep meaning behind the artwork. Which is the ripple of reflection.

Spare A Leaf

This photo was taken on a gray and rainy day. The photo includes the child's hands opening her hands to the viewers to see what she has in her hands. The child wore a bright blue and pink stripped coat. A dark brown leaf with pointed tips lay in the child's hands. As a result of the bright colors of the child's coat and pale hands demonstrated the innocent and joyful characteristics of a child. The leaf in her hands created a flow of unity to the overall meaning of the photo. The child untouched with sin and dirt holds a pointed leaf which represents the unpleasantness that she will soon discover.

An old pocket watch placed on the dirt of a nearby park. As a result of the dark and gloomy colors of the wood chips and dirt demonstrated a sinister and taunting feeling of time. The meaning that I desired to create was that even though time is a fragile and yet a precious thing , time is very harmful than it appears. The eyes shows that time consumes most of our life causing us to feel anxious every step we take.

Run from Time

In this photo a child is running away from a watch that is about to strike 4 o'clock . As not many people would know, in Chinese superstition the number 4 symbolizes death. So the dark black colors of the watch brings this unity of evil and mysterious presence.

Unmask

The subject covered with black paint holds a brush that leaves her right eye bare and exposed. As a result of the texture of the black paint on the subject's face demonstrated the contrast and emphasis to the meaning of the photo. Which is to finally open herself to the world and stop the lies to herself and others around her,Even though the subject is covered in black paint she finally opens her eyes to reveal bright and shiny pupils. The high contrast on the her face attracts the viewers eyes towards almost her whole face.

Concentration Statement

For my concentration category I hope to achieve a more deeper and significant meaning onto all of my photos. However, In order to create an artwork that establishes my personal experiences on anxiety , emotions and events I would have to express it through the use of body parts such as hands, legs, eyes and faces. Along with the black and white contrast also helps accomplish my goal. They all have the feeling of sorrow and even a hint of sadness. I hope that the viewers are able to see and understand to not just take a glance but stand, look and feel what is in the photo.

Too Harsh

This is actually the second time I used the technique of cracks onto a subject in order to create a really emotional and cool effect on the photo. The subject wears ballet shoes while in a position as though she is dancing. I added in a bit more contrast and lowered the brightness so the legs and cracks can blend in instead of leaving it dull and out of place. As any viewer can notice, I have left the ballet shoes colored to show the significance of the object that she wears. I have also added a butterfly laying on the subject’s heel which represents childhood. The overall story of the artwork is that the subject has dreamed in being a famous ballet dancer ever since she was a child. Until now she continues to push herself and strain herself leaving painful tension on her legs.

A person holds a lit cigarette in his hand. The cigarette consist with the colors of green, blue, purple, and pink while the whole surrounding of the photo is all black and white. The colors green, blue,purple and pink represents the "good" and "high" feeling of smoking however With the deep contrast in the background and the brightness on the front represents that the cigarette has very negative effects.
