Mental Health Awareness by Cheshire_Sends_Smiles

The treatment of mental illness is a taboo that is still influencing this society to this day. Misrepresentation and criminalization put those who are struggling at a disadvantage, making the rest of the society treat the mentally ill as "them" instead of "us". In this Padlet, we want everyone to be able to speak out about their own experiences in their day to day lives while leveraging the weight of their personal struggles. Understanding that everyone's experience is unique, maybe the world's stigmas may finally be broken.

People with any form of Anxiety are not attention seekers. We usually tend to stay away from attention more than crave it. Low self esteem is also an issue. We truly believe that we are terrible, and we are in no way digging for compliments.

Mental Health Issues Are Not “Cool”

Mental health isn’t a trend. It’s an actual issue. People abuse the term mental health issues and anxiety because it makes them “fit in” with their friends who do have mental health issues. The fact of the matter is a mental health disorder such as depression and anxiety isn’t a trend and not everyone has it. A large amount? Yes. But you’re not cool because you have anxiety or depression. If you have anxiety and depression you are constantly plagued by it. Anxiety is hard to live with and no one wants it to look cool. Anxiety and other mental health issues cannot be self-diagnosed. If you have mental health issues then you have been diagnosed. Those who haven’t been diagnosed but have large symptoms have symptoms. Not that they cry a lot and are going through a breakup. It frustrates me that people who don’t have these issues feel the need to publicize their supposed anxiety. Because that makes mental health look like a fake thing and the next trend. You can be a “cool” person and not have a mental health issue. You can be a “cool” person and have a mental health issue. But those of us who have a mental health issue, we want it to go away or get better, not make it a big deal in front of twenty people. Mental health needs to be addressed and talked about for the good of those who have mental health issues, not to make those talking about it sound cool and modern.

Hello everyone! So, I have a brother with autism. It hasn't been that big of a deal in my younger days but starting from 2016, he has been more agressive and his anxiety has been overwhelming him. I want him to feel safe but I also want others to feel safe around him. He is 17 at the moment and as he is taller and older (as well as more mature) he is speaking about things that others may not agree with.
