Sisters, Angelina and Sarah Grimke gave lectures all over the north about how horrible slavery is. Frederick Douglass, who was a slave, became a leader of the Abolitionist movement. He is also the writer of his newspaper, The North Star. Harriet Tubman, a conductor on the Underground Railroad freed more than 300 slaves. They would get paid less, some would live in the factories. And they used them because they were young and full of energy. But the conditions in the workplace were awful. Most people were not given shoes and they were working in places full of needles and such. They were not given much money, kids were given even less than adults.
