In england

Eat grapes at midnight for good luck

On New Year's Eve in Spain, not everyone kisses as the clock strikes twelve. The superstitious eat twelve grapes at midnight for 12 months of good luck.

Don't eat lettuce if you want to have children

In the 19th century, English men avoided salads if they wanted to start a family. In The Oxford Dictionary of Superstitions (Iona Opie and Moira Tatem, Oxford University ), a book on 'Plant Lore' suggests that lettuce was detrimental to child-bearing because it was a 'sterile' plant, and "as plants exhibited peculiarities in their actions, so were they supposed to operate on man".

In spain

* Remember how Latinos believe that both Friday and Tuesday the 13th are unlucky days? In Spain, only Tuesday the 13th is avoided like the plague for events or traveling. There’s even a saying that solidifies this belief: Martes 13: ni te cases, ni te embarques (literally meaning “Tuesday 13: Don’t get married nor embark [a ship],” it actually rhymes in Spanish

In french

Since then they freak out at the thought of having 13 people around the table for fear of the youngest person present to die prematurely. Either you kick one guest out or invite one more, but make sure nobody ends up getting the same treatment as Jesus did a couple of years back.

If you decide to give a knife to a friend, partner, or family member as a present, you take the risk to symbolically cut all the links of friendship and love between you and them. So as not to terminate your relationship with this person, they must, in return for the present, give you a small amount of money, making this a transaction rather than a gift-giving situation.

If the gesture is nevertheless carried out, that can be interpreted as the desire of a person for seeing the other… dying!

2- In China, it is the figure 4 of which everyone is wary! Since millenia, they are known to be carrying bad news.

4- In Russia, it is said that to carry an empty bucket or to even see somebody carrying an empty bucket is synonymous with misfortune. This superstition comes owing to the fact that the Tsar Alexander was assassinated with an empty bucket. It since remained in manners.

5- In Rwanda, women learn not to eat goat meat because according to the local beliefs, it would make push hair on their faces.
