How to get through the textbook takeaways:
Now lets be honest here, no one likes textbook takeaways, its old and heavy book with a bunch of words that you have to take notes about. First tip, I recommend NOT doing free notes, stick to the reading guide with the questions. I chose to do the free notes for Unit 1 and it took me forever, it is harder to focus when you do not have an outline and do not know what to look for. The reading guide is manageable and you DO NOT have to read the whole chapter, you can skim through and find the answer easily. It took me roughly 2 full class periods to finish and I could get done before the day was even over. Second tip, highlight your vocabulary words and use as much as possible, this way you do not have to make a list at the end, which consumes a lot of time. Keep track of the page number and make sure to explain, and not state the answer in one sentence, unless it says identify or list. :)

Mr. Sinn: Now, you have probably heard the name Mr. Sinn from Ms. Vestal, trust me he is a god send, definitely no sin here. (at least for the first few units). Before any test, or if you just are confused about the material for the unit, go to his Youtube channel and watch the video, he has study guides as well (if you need it). He is pretty helpful and a good audio/visual learning method. I sometimes just listened to him while I did other work. He talks a tad fast but his information is solid. So 9/10 recommend!

Test Corrections: Test corrections are never fun, but can definitely help your test grade. I never did good on APHuG tests but I still am going to end the class with a high A, therefore, this goes to show, tests do not 100% matter in the class. You will have a deadline to do test corrections (usually the next upcoming test is when they are due, so you have a lot of time). If you use your time wisely you can use your free time in class to work on these corrections (because sadly you cannot do them at home). I would just make sure to follow what Ms. Vestal wants and, even if you do not finish, STILL TURN WHATEVER YOU HAVE IN! Anything counts!

Tests: So here's the low down with tests, yes, they are multiple choice, and yes, there will be an FRQ. The night before, you should pay attention to the progress checks and topic questions, these questions will most likely pop up on your test, therefore you already have seen the question, just remember the answer! The FRQs should also not be stressed about, they are usually chosen by Ms. Vestal and she knows what the classes strong suit is in. The FRQs can also be found on the internet, so you can look them up the night before and get familiar on what to expect and the content. Just make sure you space out your answers for the FRQ and explain well, even if you do not know, essentially "sound smart" and try to use as much knowledge and definitions as possible.

Progress Checks: Do not stress about these, although they will be going into PowerSchool, you have your peers, notes, and Ms. Vestal. Do not be afraid to ask Ms. Vestal because most likely she will "show" you towards the right answer. One tip is to get in a big group and all collaborate, the more brains the better! It also is a good way to double check your answers and stay at a pace. (and if ya know, ya know, get with (or check with) the smart people ;))

Some tools I used are...
-Mr. Sinn Videos (@Mr.Sinn on Youtube)
If you look up APHUG Unit __, the Youtube video will pop up, just click which one you want more help with and listen. You can also print out his study guides if needed, and follow along with the video.
-Notes from class (Found in your google drive or notebook)
These always helped because they were written by me, and in my format, but they are also concise and can find information easily.
-My classmates (make friends! branch out :)) Now this just makes things fun, get a little study group going, or share your notes with a friend, quiz each other!
-Quizlets (Quizlet.com) This website is probably a staple, but it helps to use the test feature and the flashcards. If you go over it 3 times and feel confident you will be prepared.
-Progress Checks from AP Classroom The questions help you get familiar with what MCQs look like and FRQs, and most of the times the tests have some of the questions from the MCQs on there.

I thoroughly enjoyed this class, I found it the right amount of challenging and it was not to demanding. Ms. Vestals teaching is quite good, she is really nice and if you put in the work it is super easy to get an A. I liked that she never crammed work in, and we got a lot of in class time to work on assignments, I rarely had homework. I learned a lot from this class, and it was not really what I was expecting but still entertaining. One thing I would suggest to change for next semester is test corrections. The rule; you need to do test corrections at school and cannot be done at home, seems pointless. I know what Ms. Vestals goal is, for us to understand the knowledge and get it from some source we previously used, but I rarely had time to do it in class, and they are also so repetitive (restate question and answer). I would do the same thing I do in class as I would at home, but get it done much quicker. I think a lot of students use the internet anyways to understand what they did wrong, therefore it would be more efficient as a student to get it done at home.

Most "Challenging" Unit

Now according to Powerschool the most challenging unit for me was either Unit 5 (Agriculture and Rural Land Use) or 4 (Political Patterns and Processes). Both of those units, my test score was pretty low. With test corrections they were brought up significantly. I think unit 4 was harder than unit 5 because unit 4 has a lot more new vocabulary terms in it, we learned about International Boundary Disputes, Redistricting, Ethnic conflicts, etc. All of this was new information to me therefore it was a lot to remember in a matter of two weeks or so. 2 things that help me get through this unit was Mr. Sinn videos and Quizlets, because there was so much content the videos and flashcards was one website or one source I could get ALL my information from.

My "Favorite" Unit

My favorite unit would have to be 2. Not just because that was my best test grade in the class, but because it was an easy concept, especially compared to unit 1 at the time. I learned about the Demographic Transition Model, which is a model with 5 stages that basically tells you if the country is a devolving country or developed country's based on a lot of things like birth and death rates. Another thing I learned was crude birth and death rates, the rates at which birth occurs and death (more or less). These helped me understand the DTM better and how developed a country was, it tied in with gender roles, which was interesting. We also learned the effects of migration and how this led to countries population and development (job availability, culture etc). The activity I liked most about this unit was the choice board activity, I did a google slide with DIY memes relating to the DTM, I got an 100 on that and it was fun making it, in the end it helped me better understand all 5 stages of the DTM and what countries associated with them.
