At first I felt that UDL and CRT were two completely different frameworks of teaching and learning. Now I see how they closely overlap. One cannot create a safe and culturally responsive learning environment without knowing our learners. We learn about our learners by embracing their culture, values, and family life. We can not develop expert learners without know each individual learner and how they learn best.

I used to think that CRT was a very broad and nonspecific concept, but now I know there are measurable, effective strategies I can incorporate to purposefully make sure my teaching is culturally responsive. I also now know that communication among all members of a students educational support system (teacher, family, etc) with regards to how the student's culture will affect his or her learning is beneficial to the student.
