Some characteristics of picture books are rhythm and repetition, read-aloud appeal, visual interest and illustration opportunities, and re-readability (Sara). All of these characteristics tend to be accurate, because picture books just sound way more appealing when they are reading it or it is being read to them. As for the read-aloud appeal, I think children like to be read books sometimes more than they like to read it. I know when I was a child I loved to be read books; it just was more interesting that way. When it comes to the visual interests, the illustration gives the read a chance to interact with the book visually.

Some common picture book authors are Dr. Seuss, which he wrote a best seller called "Green Eggs and Ham", and also "The Cat In The Hat". Another picture book author would be Jan and Stan Berenstain, who wrote "The Berenstain Bears" books.

Overall, things that make a picture books successful are illustration that are colorful and full of movement, lovable identifiable characters, universal appeal, humor, and a strong unique concept (Marchini). The illustration and the color of movement helps the reader stay engaged with the book, especially to children. The best thing that keeps them engaged and distracted are many pretty colors. As for the lovable identifiable characters, the children should have characters they can get to know throughout the book, just like if they were watching a TV show. For example if they were watching Curious George, they should be able to know George as the show goes on, and it is the same thing for picture books. The universal appeal refers to how they can get the readers to relate to the character. An example would be if a girl likes to dress up, she could read the book Fancy Nancy. Last but not least, the strong unique concept would be the message that they are trying to communicate to the children reading. They could communicate this through words, illustrations, pictures, anything the author feels like would be sending a message.

I think that fiction is one of the leading genres in young adult literature only because there is very many books in that genre. In the middle ages, people always used to think that whatever information was in a book was an automatic truth (Ebdrup). Then, slowly people found out that most of the stuff in those books were not in fact true. “Most people only knew the Bible, which was believed to tell the truth about the world. Because of this, it came as a big surprise when books full of fabrications first started to appear in the 12th century" (Ebdrup). Thats not when fiction originated though, but there were many fiction books that started to come into play.

There are plenty of sub-genres in fiction like mystery which normally surrounds a systematic study around some kind of crime, fantasy; can be mystical or just stuff thats normally impossible, romance; surrounds love between people, adventure; which is more of an escape type of thing, horror and that mostly consists of stuff that he author usually wants to frighten their readers, and science fiction, which has science and and technology at its core and stuff that could be possible (Novel Writing Help). Popular young adult authors include John Green, in which he wrote "The Fault in Our Stars", Lois Lowry who also wrote "The Giver". Of course there are plenty of more authors, but we can't forget the two authors who wrote the series "The Hunger Games", and "Divergent" who are Veronica Roth and Suzanne Collins.

Overall, fiction is such a large genres that has many authors and books that are widely known and popular. The reason why young adults love fiction is because it helps form their imagination and it is something that helps them think outside the box. It can be used as a way of educating as well, because there are plenty of teachers and professors that use fiction book for students to read as a way of learning something. Besides the educational aspect, it can be a great form of entertainment as well for all ages.

They are typically in the form of novels. There is a wide range of romance novels, "in between, you'll find paranormal romance with vampires and shapeshifters, time-travel romance, historical romance, contemporary romance, and romantic suspense. There are growing romance subgenres for LGBT love stories, a large community of writers who specialize in African-American romance, and there's even a popular Amish romance subgenre" (Kahn). These types of novels are the easiest to relate to because there is romance everywhere and it is universal. Everyone has their own type of romance they like, which is probably why that area is so successful. "The romance readership is huge and global; More than 70 million people in the USA alone read at least one romance novel per year, and most of them read many more. The work of popular American romance writer Nora Roberts is translated into 33 languages and distributed on 6 continents" (Kahn).

Many authors that write in romance fiction are Nicholas Sparks, who has written many romance novels throughout the years, Jenny Han, who wrote "To All The Boys I've Loved Before" trilogy, Stephenie Meyer, who wrote the famous series of "Twilight". There are plenty more of authors but these are just a few.

Overall, romance can be it's own storyline and it can also fall in with other genres as well like mystery, science fiction, fantasy, adventure, etc. It really grabs a lot of people's attention when it falls in with these different genres and often times they are either made into a show or a movie.
