This was due to the quasi wars, the US wanted to get both France and Britain to recognize they were a neutral country so the U.S. could obtain neutral trade. This is significant because it unified both political parties (feds. &amp; dem-reps) and made the US officially neutral with the dissolvement of the US-French alliance</div>]]></description>
