         <description><![CDATA[<div>After heavy bombing and shelling the previous day, German troops attacked the city of Brest in Belarus on June 22, 1941. They thought they could easily win over the city but were met with fierce cover fire while remaining Soviet troops fled to the north of the city. Germany did not gain complete control until the end of July. Reserves for Operation Barbarossa were called in.</div>]]></description>
