It can also be used to describe how with success, times of failure and self-doubt will follow. In the proverb, getting lost symbolizes failure and not meeting your goal. It can also symbolize a lack of a specific trait, for example sympathy. Learning the way represents one learning from their mistakes, meeting a goal, or obtaining a trait. The proverb is trying to demonstrate how mistakes must be made in order for people to learn from their previous ways. Otherwise, people cannot learn or fully better themselves. An example of how this proverb relates to the modern world can be seen in advancing technology that we have today. Scientists and engineers work together everyday trying to advance modern technology. An example of a company that is advancing in technology is Apple. More times than not, they come across flaws and problems that cannot easily be solved. While fixing these issues, they further their knowledge of what not to do while also bettering the product. The mistakes that are made help to set precedents for future companies and projects while allowing the world to grow. This proverb can also be related to sports. When first starting sports, often it is found that your level of skill is minimum. However, overtime your technique improves.
