There's a wide range of feelings that film can convey from the kinetic and hyper-saturated to the quiet and emotionally distant. I hope this course will teach me more about both international cinema that I haven't been as exposed to and how to better articulate why I resonate with various films.

My wife's my best friend, but our dog is probably a close second - his name's Teddy, and he's an American Eskimo.

In addition to loving learning, I love to cook, bake and can (jam, mostly). The focaccia is one I made, and even though it looks pretty cool, I guarantee any one of you could make one just as nice!

I love math, reading, going out with friends, movies and the beach.

I enrolled in World Film because I have always loved how old and new fils are made, and the history and background of them. I am very creative so i love films and the new inovative ideas created all around the world.

I honestly don't have a favorite movie, there are so many that are so good, I love romcoms, comedy, and sad movies. I feel like those are the most fun and entertaining to watch because they catch your attention. I could say that the most recent movie i watched was the housemaid and it was so good, i loved the plot twist and i recommend watching it.

A fun fact about me is that I speak 4 languages: Spanish, English, Catalan and French.

I enrolled in WFS 2780 because I really really like film. I have taken a few film classes in the past and for my last semester in university, I wanted to revisit a subject I love learning about.

I can't say I have a specific favorite movie, but at the time I am writing this, Jurassic Park keeps popping up in my head. I do really love this movie, it was a go-to movie in my house growing up so for me its really nostalgic. I have plenty of top ten movies, and out of them, I think found footage movies are my favorite!

My name is Macy Underwood, and I am a sophomore in Studio Arts! I'm originally from Iowa, and love reading, creating art, singing, and playing Minecraft, as well as watching Minecraft Youtube videos (Hermitcraft enjoyers, wya). I decided to enroll in this class because I've been meaning to consume more diverse, long form media, and this seemed like a good way to gain a few credits and do so! My favorite artist is Hozier, and my current top songs of his are Jackboot Jump, In a Week, Dinner and Diatribes, and In the Woods Somewhere. My favorite movie(s) are the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Matrix movies. I've loved Lord of the Rings since I read the books and saw the movies around 3rd grade, and the movies are now incredibly nostalgic to me. I am FAR too much of a nerd about them, and at the time of writing this, will be rewatching Return of the King in theaters tomorrow!!! (I'm so excited, Aragorn's passage through Fui 'Ngorthrim/The Paths of the Dead is my favorite Movie scene out of the Trilogy) The Matrix movies genuinely made me question so many of my deep rooted religious beliefs. I adore how over the top nearly all of the fight scenes are, and how modern the concept feels for the time it was created. Also, Hugo Weaving is in both! My name is Varun Prasanna, a junior in Electrical Engineering doing a minor in Engineering Sales. I love martial arts, have a first-degree black belt, and love video games. I am from Ames, Iowa, and chose to join this class because I love learning about the world, and movies are a great way to tap into culture, as I speak 3 languages. My name is Pushkar Purandare. I am a Senior majoring in Management Information Systems. I am from India.

I like watching movies from all over the world and playing video games sometimes(Minecraft), which is the primary reason for joining this course. I have attached some of the pictures of movies I like. I look forward to getting some new movie and TV series recommendations!

Some of my interests include fitness, music, and travel. I really enjoy learning about different cultures, and I enjoyed the French film course so much I decided to also take this class. I'm excited to explore more films from across the world, not just France.

My favorite movie that I've seen recently is Hamnet because of the beautiful cinematography and touching story. I found the main characters extremely easy to like, and the perspective director Chloe Zhao used to tell the story helped me connect with Jessie Buckley's character, Agnes, very deeply.

I am from Las Vegas, Nevada (a little far away). Some of my interests include guitar/music and video games. I wanted to take WFS 2780 because a lot of my friends and family are big movie buffs and I thought this would be a fun way of learning how to analyze and discuss movies and be part of their discussions.

My favorite movie is probably "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly". There's something about the camera work and soundtrack that make me come back over and over despite the long run-time.

If you were to get to know me, you would quickly learn that my passions and interests lie in anything social and active. I truly enjoy being active and getting my sweat on. In high school, I ran track, wrestled, and played volleyball, which I also do at the club level here in Iowa. Volleyball is one of my biggest passions, so much so that during the winter-spring seasons, I coach club volleyball! When I'm not being active or hanging with my friends, I spend a lot of my time binging shows on Netflix, unhealthily so that I have pretty much watched every series on Netflix! From Ragnarok to Winx, from Shameless to Scandal, from Vampire Diaries to Grey's Anatomy, from Naruto to Hunter X Hunter, I love anything with a good plot and amazing characters.

I decided to take this course because I've always enjoyed entertainment, no matter the genre or type of entertainment. Although I spend a lot of my time watching shows, I do like watching movies. The only reason I have a bias against them is that 1 hour and a half to 2 hours is just not fair when it ends and leaves you wondering for more. Personally, however, for that exact reason, movie series/franchises like Harry Potter, Twilight, and Marvel movies have really pulled my interest. My favorite movie, in fact, is Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness. One of my favorite Marvel characters is Wanda, and this movie truly centers around her story and the level of her abilities.

I am excited to watch movies, and I can't wait to share my thoughts on the movies and discuss them with everyone!

At Iowa State, I’m the chapter president of Sigma Chi fraternity, a member of the ISBA club, and an ambassador for SFE. I chose this class because I love film, especially the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as my all-time favorite. I watched this film in IMAX, and it was the best film experience I've ever had. It grabbed my emotions and threw them around like no one. easily my #1.

Last semester, I became very interested in exploring different cultures and perspectives. Since I needed a final world credit, this class seemed like the perfect opportunity. My goal is to gain a better understanding of other cultures through film. My only concern is that I might not fully grasp certain humor, cultural references, or social norms from other cultures.

I’m really excited to learn and engage with all of you!

Media literacy is important in political science as is any art. I am always digesting movies, but. learning more can help me better understand them or see in a different perspective. I grew up in Nevada, Iowa but originally I was born in Eritrea a country in East Africa. Growing up I spoke Tigrinya, the native language and English with my parents. My parents would also always have Eritrean and Ethiopian films running in the background 24/7. We were family friends with an Indian family who introduced me to Bollywood at a very young age.This drew me to global film, as I have watched shows and movies and different languages you learn so much about culture through movies. With these small experiences I've had, it excites me to learn more about culture in this class.

My favorite movie would have to be Hunger Games: Catching Fire. A very cliche answer, but it will never get old to me. It keeps me on my toes because of it's amazing acting. The first time I ever watched it I felt like I was in the arena there. It is a perfect action movie with a heartfelt and powerful story behind it.

I decided to enroll in WFS 2780: Intro to Global Film because I’m interested in how movies reflect different cultures and perspectives around the world. I like films that go beyond entertainment and say something meaningful about people and society.

My favorite movie is Rush Hour because it’s funny, fast-paced, and has great chemistry between the main characters. I also like how it blends action and comedy while showing cultural differences in a way that’s entertaining and memorable.

I’m originally born in Lagos, Nigeria, and I currently live in Richmond, California, which has definitely shaped how I see culture, storytelling, and visuals. Outside of class, I love being creative—I enjoy drawing, painting, photography, and anything hands-on. I’m also really into watching movies, especially Action and Horror, but I won’t lie—La La Land completely surprised me and ended up being one of my favorites.
I also love baking, and I recently started cooking, which has been hella fun and way more relaxing than I expected.

I decided to enroll in WFS 2780: Intro to Global Film because I’m interested in how films from different cultures tell stories, use visuals, and reflect social and historical contexts. As a graphic design major, I’m especially excited to analyze composition, color, symbolism, and how visuals communicate meaning beyond dialogue.

My favorite movie genre is Horror, because I love how it can mix suspense, psychology, and social commentary while still being entertaining. When it’s done well, horror says a lot about fear, culture, and human behavior.

I’m looking forward to learning from everyone this semester and seeing how different perspectives shape the way we interpret global films!

I enrolled in WFS because movies have always been my guilty pleasure and I wanted to expand my pallet and knowledge of them. My favorite movie is the The Prestige and I love the suspense/twist at the end. I totally recommend it. @itslilgov is my instagram!

While I’m building models for architecture, I usually have a movie playing in the background most of the time it’s action or comedy. But when I’m fully focused on watching a film, I almost always choose a documentary. I get scared very easily, so I absolutely hate horror movies, but I do love a good rom-com when I’m watching with my friends.

My favorite movie of all time is 3 Idiots. I’ve only watched a handful of Bollywood films, but this is one I can return to anytime. The way it conveys emotion through a language I don’t understand and a culture I didn’t grow up in speaks to me every single time. I’m either laughing so hard that I’m crying or genuinely crying. The film addresses mental pressure and social class topics that are extremely relevant today in such a smart and thoughtful way, even though it was made years ago, and I find that truly amazing.
