Harriet Tubman was a key leader in the Abolition movement because of her success with the Underground Railroad. She led approximately 300 slaves to freedom through this secret organization. Harriet was an active antislavery speaker and had many connections with other Abolitionists, however, she was more of an active leader. After the Civil War, Tubman opened a home for 'Indigent Aged Negroes' which was supported by other Abolitionists such as John Brown.

Fredrick Douglass was a notable Abolitionist author and orator in the mid to late 1800s. His three autobiographies are noted as important slave narratives at this time in history as well as his influential black newspaper. During the Civil War he was influential through his work with propaganda for The Union cause. He is thought of as a heroic voice to humanism and social justice. His legacy will speak of the meaning of being black in America, as well as the human calling to resist oppression.

The Underground Railroad, led by Harriet Tubman, was in fact not underground nor a railroad. This was was a series of routes (like train routes) set up for slaves to escape their slave owners up to the Northern free states. The Underground Railroad allowed slaves to obtain their freedom, however the owners could respond with just as much power. The Fugitive Slave Law was strengthened in order for slaveholders to chase down their slaves in free states. All things aside, the Underground Railroad was extremely impactful towards the freeing of black slaves in the South and will always be remembered as a very noteworthy event for the blacks.

Nat Turner's Rebellion led by Nat Turner, a black American slave, was a slave revolt wherein a group of black slaves brutally attacked and killed as many white people they could get their hands on. This revolt resulted in the issue of slavery being brought back up in court and politics. The slaves succeeded in making a statement that the issue of slavery was going to be taken seriously and will be demolished. However, they did not make the exact statement they had hoped for. Instead their actions turned white people who were anti slavery back to thinking that they should continue to be chained up because of their savage acts. This revolt resulted the tightening of slave codes and did not help in the freedom of slaves.

The Liberator

The Liberator was an antislavery paper written in the mid 1800s. The Liberator was written by William Lloyd Garrison who really impacted America with the articles he published since it was during the time where antislavery issues were prevalent and blowing up in politics around America. Garrison published The Liberator in Boston and it had spread how the Declaration of Independence should be bestowed upon all the people including African Americans. Of course, the south took it as a useful thing that slavery existed, while the northern side disagreed heavily. The paper influenced much of the talk in politics about the issue of slavery and helped push for the demolishment of slavery.

Uncle Tom's Cabin

Uncle Tom's Cabin is an antislavery novel written by Harriet Beecher Stowe intended to tell a story about the life of two slaves who work on a plantation but are being sold to pay their slaveholder's debts. Moderate anti-slavery reformers praised the book for putting a human face on those held in slavery, emphasizing the impact slavery had on families, and helping the public understand the plight of enslaved mothers. Her work helped America view how painful slavery really was on families and on an individual. Uncle Tom's Cabin created an Abolitionist celebrity out of Stowe and she was often invited to abolitionist rallies. Stowe's book is one of the most notable antislavery novels in history because it firmly stressed ideas against slavery.
