Not everyone that works together in music are going to be able to achieve what Ratliff describes, this is something that comes with time. It is developed over time, as the group becomes "closer" and finds out how to vibe with each other. As Ratliff says, "Closeness is developed over time, and its value to the ear is absolute." Ratliff also talked about attending a concert where the band was featuring a new drummer for the first time in twenty years.
