The game can be played with different rules and I have students guess words to see if they recognize the beginning "e" vowel sound. The game is typically called green glass door but I play "Emocionante Expedicion por el Ecuador" and only things that begin with the "e" sound are allowed on the expedition. So elefante, espinacas, escoba, or edificio. Students take turns guessing items to bring on the expedition until they discover the rule.

Word ladders are great for recognizing similar sounds in a word. I use them a lot in the younger grades. The student builds the picture at the bottom with magnetic letters or the tiles from Fundations boards are great for this. They have to change the word to the next picture above based on which part of the word is changing and how they hear it, whether it's a different vowel team or consonant blend. You can even have students ask their partner questions about each picture. Your building coaches or a grade level teacher might have a set of worksheets or Ellen Delgado may have posted something similar on the literacy google classroom.

I like to use these Listening Card activities with the students and extend them with writing tasks at the end (i.e. write as many words as you can to label pictures, write a sentence about one of the pictures, etc.). We always warm up by brainstorming ways to listen and remember/ be a "good listener". I am attaching some of the cards that I have found most useful from level 1.
