Bobo’s testimony hurt them a lot. O’Brien had to find a way to separate Steve from King but Briggs was trying to do the opposite because Steve looks like a pretty decent guy. The next day, Dorothy Moore was on the stand and said that King was at her house the same time the crime had occurred. He came to bring her a lamp that he thought she would like but she doesn’t have it anymore because it broke. The next person on the stand was George Nipping. He said that Mr. King is left-handed which meant that he couldn’t of shot to Mr. Nesbitt since the wound was found on the left side of the body. In order to have a better shot at winning the case, Steve had to take the stand. Before he went on, Mrs. O’Brien prepared him by playing a game. She asked him a series of questions and if she liked his answer she would turn the cup up if not she would turn the cup down and make him fix his answer. While on the stand Steve says that he knows James from the neighbourhood and rarely has a conversation with him, same thing for Osvaldo, and he was working on a film project the day of the incident. After Steve, it’s Mr. Sawicki’s turn to take the stand. He says that Steve is a talented, bright, compassionate and honest person and confirms that he had a film project to do that day. The following day is where it all comes down. The 2 défense lawyers as well as the State lawyer present their closing argument. While waiting for the verdict, Steve was very scared, he didn’t know what he would do for the next 25 years in jail. Finally, the verdict was that King was proven GUILTY and that Steve was INNOCENT. King has to spend 25 years in jail, Osvaldo was sent to a reformatory and bobo is still in jail. Ever since the trial, Steve has been filming himself a lot to tell the camera who he is.
