(5B) DO NOW Padlet: Who Are Grades For and Why Do We Care? by Dario Sulzman

Make a post with your name and your response to the following question: Who are grades for? Think deeply about this question and respond as fully as possible. And given that it's just a letter (which is a pretty narrow way to capture what is often hours or even months worth of learning, why do we care about them?).

I think grades play a huge part in someone's academic life. The reason being that given that you have low grades, If you aspire to be accepted to a collage, they are less likely to accept you, as to where you have good grades, you would have more opportunities, and a higher acceptance rate to a collage that has a mid-to-low acceptance rate. You will also have more job opportunities, like jobs people won't usually apply to, or require certain skills that you've learned during school. That is my honest opinion on why grades are important to you.

I feel like grades arent just for students, teachers and parents, but also for college. We care because it represents us over the years. Our whole childhood and teen years have been studying, homework, tests, and classwork. It goes for a good cause. It guides where we go in the future and gives us multiple career choices. Grades dont entirely represent you as a good or bad person but it shows any employers or universities if your really dedicated to your work and if would take the time to come in everyday or if you should get paid for how you do. Your grades also show what studies you major in. It helps you use your best skills correctly in the real world.

Grades are primarily intended for students teachers and parents to assess academic progress and understanding. They serve as a way to measure achievement, identify areas needing improvement, and motivate students to succeed. Additionally, grades can influence future opportunities such as college admissions and scholarships. We care about grades because they provide a standardized way to evaluate learning outcomes, ensure accountability, and help guide educational decisions. Ultimately, grades aim to support student growth and ensure that educational standards are met, benefiting both individuals and the broader educational community.

I think grades are for students and parents, the reason I think this is because grades for students are a way for them to check the quality of the work they have put into the class, for parents i feel they consider it as the value of the person, I think the reason grades, more specifically bad grades stress us out is because they give us a sense of anxiety not knowing how much a certain assignment might make our grade go up or how much it'll make our grade go down, I also feel that thinking that the work your doing isn't good enough can stress us out or make us overthink.

Grades are a reflection of what you've learned in school and how responsible/dedicated you are to completing tasks and how good you completed those tasks. Grades don't show who you are as a person but shows if you're someone who cares about doing good in school. We care about grades because we've always been told that good grades will get you recognized by good schools and "you'll be successful" even though that's not always true.
