In April of 1837, David was invited to join the LMS ( London Mission Society).In the same year after arriving in Glasgow, he completed his first term at Anderson College.

British at war in China

David began having lots enthusiasm to get to the mission field.but was stopped by a problem: the British were at war with China over trading restrictions. In 1839, Great Britain had sold forty thousand cases of opium in China. This addictive drug produced from a special breed of poppies grown in India.

In February 1842, David set out to the North again. This time he took four Africans with him, and a man named Pomare.They were taken to translate and to help with the wagon and supplies.On this trip David wanted to go back and visit the Bakwains and chief Sechele.

The lion was killing most of the sheep the village owned.So David's men went to go kill it with spears and guns.when David shot at the lion, the lion did not fall dead like he expected it to do, instead it jumped out at him and shook him in his mouth like a rag doll.When one of his friends shot at him the lion ran away they thought.A while later David saw the lion in the bushes and warned his men.This time the lion ran at David and broke his left arm then it pounced on his friend, Mebalwe.Then finally the lion fell dead with David fatally wounded
