To make this possible we also needed to cut the odd ones shorter so that the even ones can be moved backwards while the odd ones are lowered.

We started by disassembling the robot as we only needed the wheels and the main circuit board. We thought about how we can make the robot move the 2 sets of vertical strings simultaneously (move the even ones forward while lifting the odd ones or move the even ones backward while lowering the odd ones), so we connected the sticks with a string and used the wheels as pulleys. The whole mechanism is placed on a cardboard box because the string has to go under the strips as well, so we made 2 holes in the box and pulled the string through them. The strips are placed between the wheels, which are sitting on holders made of cardboard.
This is just a prototype, so everything (besides the wheels and the main circuit board, of course) is made of cardboard, but we still need to figure out how to incorporate the horizontal strips automatically, as we’re still doing it manually at the moment.
