I think that the treatment of farmers, animals, and the environment is terrible and is an unaddressed issue that impacts everyone in the U.S. There should be more government aid to small private farmers and more regulation on hormones being used on animals, because if nothing is done, there could be a nationwide epidemic. As shown in this documentary, industrial farming is means to an end.

I believe the treatment of the pieces of the industrial food system are unjust in their own ways. The animals are treated unfairly by being confined to such small spaces. The farmers are treated unfairly by being put into debt by the companies they work with. The companies they work with force them into long term contracts with no alternative. Additionally, they regulate the way in which they do their farming as to homogenize the industrial process. In another film I saw about chicken farms they explained how the company which bought the poultry would twist the farmers arm by threatening to cut them off if the farmer didn't enlarge their operation, in turn, putting the farmer into debt. The treatment of the environment is unjust because livestock creates an immense amount of waste, all of which is contaminated with pharmaceuticals and is unsafe to let leak into the environment and water table

It's obvious that the practices of organically grown fruits and vegetables and raised livestock are superior to that of traditional industry practice. Once more people begin prioritizing health and quality over price and convenience, the practices can effectively change. The most effective protest is educating others and refusing to spend money on non-organic foods. However, this is unrealistic for the whole nation, which can't afford and may not have access to organic foods. Therefore, if we are to change this the gov't should further regulate food production to value quality over quantity.

I think that we can work to change the injustices against the farmers, animals and environments by using publicity and our money. If we publicize and inform more and more people about the things that go on at these farms then it will severely affect the reputation of the companies and might make them reconsider their business methods. Also, if we stop buying from companies that use and support harmful practices then we will force them to change, as the companies will lose revenue and will try to get it back by switching to better practices so people will buy from them again.

We've seen that social media can be a huge factor in raising support for certain causes, like the Dakota Access Pipeline, and the same could be done for the issues presented in "Fresh."

Three ways; voting, purchase, and exposure. If people are exposed to the foul practices of CAFOs and factory farms, they will be more likely to follow these two strategies. By buying organic produce, the capitalist system will naturally shift power away from factory farming. By voting for people who promise to uphold necessary regulations, the US democratic system will also shift the power away from CAFOs and industrial farming.

In our community we have the privilege to be more selective to where we buy our produce and meat, and it is wise for us to make decision based off of what is the best for our environment and our health.

We can work to change this by working with the companies themselves. If companies changed their procedures and created regulations about the treatment of animals and farm workers, change would have to be made. Farmers would start using techniques that are better for the animals and use less chemicals. Less chemicals would also have a great effect on the soil and the environment. Change is possible, but it needs to start with the large corporations.
