Digital tools allow students to share what they know when not physically in the classroom. For example in a flipgrid video they could explain orally to a question they might have jotted in their readers notebook as you're not able to read their notebook remotely you can still provide feedback and coaching steps. Using an online math tool students can enter the answers to math practice problems on their homework page which allows a teacher to see their progress remotely vs. collecting papers in the classroom. Digital tools can also offer student choice in the format of assessment that suits them, they can use slides/drawing to demonstrate visually, a video tool to explain verbally/act out or a padlet post to explain in writing.

It also gives opportunities to those who may need more support to learn from others and participate in their own time. Because there are many areas where teaching and learning is most effective when done casually and from peers with their peers with guidance, this is a valuable tool for assessment on a regular everyday basis.
