         <title>Causes and effects of U.S involvement&amp;nbsp;</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Cause- William H. Seward hoped that there would be natural resources in Alaska.</p><p><span style="font-size: 13px;">Effect- Seward bought an area twice the size of Texas for 2 cents an acre. Also Alaska had lots of resources like fur, timber, minerals , and gold</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 13px;">Cause- The United States wanted the Samoa Islands for natural resources.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 13px;">Effect- The U.S and Germany agreed on dividing the islands. The U.S found lots of resources there.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 13px;">Cause- The U.S wanted the Hawaiian Islands for trading. shipbuilding, and the sugar industry.</span></p><p>Effect- Liliuokiilani became queen and changed made a new constitution for the Hawaiians and they revolted. 150 U.S Marines came ashore and the revolt succeeded without a fight. Then congress voted to annex the islands in 1898.</p><p>Cause- The U.S wanted to open trade with Japan.</p><p>Effect- Matthew Perry was sent to Japan with warships and gifts, which finally persuaded the Japanese leaders to open trade with the U.S. They signed a trade agreement in 1858.</p>]]></description>
