An information system is a program or software that helps you to organise data into structured information. So for example an online store would need a system that organises all their customers information such as their name, address, credit card details and their purchase. An information system would make sure that all the information for that person is correct - so one person isn't charged for a different persons order.

The information system is a method within an organization to identify• The data that must be collected and turn it into useful information• How are these data will be collected, organized and stored securely?• Who can access the information?• How can authorized personnel access this information• And how can this information be used for important decision making. For example, in a hospital setting, they need to collect the patient’s information. All personal information necessary will be collected upon admission. Each patient will have their medical records with a unique medical records number. In this medical record, all the doctors’ assessment and diagnosis, nurses’ notes, medications, and diagnostic tests/results and treatment will be recorded. As these are sensitive and important information that will be needed again for follow-up check-up, referral, and future reference, proper storage is crucial and personnel who wish to view this record must have a proper authorization. Therefore, every staff must have log-in details and password authentication.
