What I love most about Public Health

Public Health is the science and practice of preventing disease and improving health in communities. I love this discipline because it allows me to explore how to help people to my greatest ability. I'm trying to get into the medical field, and I believe that taking a Public Health approach will help me become a better healthcare provider. In Project 2, I wrote about a speaker, Dr. Patrick Remington. He was talking about how the medical system is flawed because they're more worried about treating and prescribing medicine for the money than curing that particular illness or disease. While doctors may not be able to cure an illness due to research and other factors, they can surely help prevent it. The doctor title may not always help with giving access to healthcare to everyone, but they can certainly try. I love studying Public Health because it helps me have a deeper understanding about what is happening in communities and how to help them by targeting the root cause of their needs.

These issues are the result of lack of funding, research, and environmental effects.

How research is conducted and shared

In Public Health, its research falls into two very broad categories, quantitative and qualitative methods. The quantitative method looks for statistical analysis, experiments, numerical data, and facts to identify correlations, trends, and patterns. This kind of method allows researchers to determine relationships between variables. The qualitative method focuses on understanding the patient's experiences and challenges. The quantitative method answers the "what" of research and the qualitative method answers the "how" and "why." Public Health research is then shared by data sharing. This is when information from one individual or institution goes to another for scientific research. This is also known as PHDS (Public Health Data Sharing).
