In Myanmar currently there is a major problem with treatment of minorities specifically the treatment of a certain ethnic group, the Rohingyas. The Rohingya crisis started in 2015 but the discrimination existed far before that. The Rohingya crisis began when troops in Myanmar bagan terrorizing the Rohingya. They would enter villages and burn houses, mistreat the woman, and kill as many people as possible. These government troops have caused close to 647,000 Rohingya to flee their homes. This campaign of terror is all because of prejudice and hate, And to make matters worse government supported. This is a major problem that needs that needs to be addressed.

The bad treatment of the Rohingyas has deeply negatively affected the whole country of Myanmar. The clashes between the Rohingyas and the government troops have everyone hostile and mad at each other. There are fatalities on both sides and injuries. There is so much tension and hostility that no one feels safe. It is safe for no one, not even families. As they are trying to escape myanmar or just get back home they are attacked, killed, and abused. This has left many separated families and orphans that now have to fend for themselves. There are 43.000 presumed dead and over 647,000 displaced. Many run to neighboring countries where they find themselves in run down refugee camps with little resources. Everyone is negatively affected by the horrible treatment of the Rohingyas and minorities.

C. why should the rest of the world be concerned about this issue?

The rest of the world should be concerned about this issue for many reasons. One is that the government of Myanmar is horribly treating the Rohingya and it is setting a precedent that minorities can just be mistreated and killed. If countries do not step in now and show their displeasure and take action against it, other countries may follow in Myanmar's footsteps. Another reason the rest of the world should be concerned about the treatment of Rohingyas is because many Rohingyas flee the Myanmar into other neighboring countries. This has caused major problems for countries like Bangladesh because they have a sudden swarm of people crossing their borders that they are not prepared to deal with. To make matters worse for the Rohingya, Bangladesh is not very sympathetic to the Rohingya’s plight. Bangladesh is using the refugees as a kind of political leverage. They are using the refugees to get things they want from Myanmar. Whenever Myanmar does something in Bangladesh's favor, Bangladesh sends some of the Rohingya back to Myanmar. One they are there they are most likely killed or deeply mistreated. As you can see no matter which country you live in, the world is still being impacted by the horrible treatment of the Rohingya.

I stare out at the refugee camp and remember how I got here. It was a peaceful day at home when suddenly we heard gunshots. There were these strange men running down the hill toward us. I heard screaming and people falling to the ground, then there was my mom shouting at me to run. And I did, into the woods and then just kept going with my mom struggling to catch up. After several hours we stopped and started to walk. Suddenly we heard some more loud noises and we started to run again, but soon we heard someone shouting for my mom to stop. We stopped only to find that it was my brother. We found a clearing and sat down and cried, we all knew that there was no going back home. Finally we got up and kept walking almost all day and all night, until we reached Bangladesh. Things here are better, there is no one trying to kill us but we lost our old life. We lost our families our houses and our self worth, we have nothing now. When you walk around the refugee camps you see dirty tents with the remains of family's, no one playing or running around. There is nothing left for us so we sit here not sure what will happen next.

D. what is currently being done to address this issue?

There is little being done to address the Rohingya crisis. Several countries have voiced their displeasure but is hard for them to take action for many reasons. One is because many people believe what happens in Myanmar should stay in Myanmar and is not for them to deal with and then some believe that any issue of oppressed people should not go ignored. Some countries have taken action although not tremendously. The US put trade bans on Myanmar's products as a way to stop Myanmar’s revenue and show displeasure, however just a year later they removed the bans even thought Myanmar was still discriminating against the Rohingya. If we really want to give myanmar an incentive to stop, further and stronger action is necessary.
