I loved it!
Playing the drums, which I had never done before, certainly moved me and I not only learned (from Rita and Edgar) that the heartbeat follows the rhythm of the drums, but I also felt it!
The more we played the drums, the more in-synch the whole group got and we all enjoyed it so much.
Playing this traditional instrument in the group together created a very special atmosphere, I am sure we could all feel it. Especially at the end of the session when about 40 kids (3-10 yrs. old) joined us and some of them either joined played with us or danced to the rhythm, it was just a wonderful atmosphere!

I was very touched when the pupils came and played Gwo Ka and danced with us. The rhythm connects us without words. Music comes from the heart and goes to the heart.
Every culture has its own instrument and rhythm and yet most of them are very similar with their own cultural history, which also connects.

Music is very powerful tool and it plays a huge role- it is within me and calms me down in certain situations and as Rita said, music can be and IS very good meditating instrument WHICH I STRONGLY AGRRE WITH. In our demanding profession it is important to calm down and find inner focus.

I was suprised that Finnish national instrument kannel can be found in many countries. That was new for me. Interesting. Drumming workshop was a bit hard for me. I have never played any instrument but the flute when I was a child. So when I saw the drums I started to be worried.

But emotions and inspiration came to me as I could feel Edgard´s rhythm  was not good at all but I loved it!! So discovered that playing the drums is really amazing!!

What a great atmosphere when the kids arrived!!

Edgard conveys with such inspiration. Discovering that i completely lack the sense of rhythm, even if i can feel it in my body. Geeting to meet the children and see that they have sush knowledge and cultural heritage to pass on to us visitors was impressive.

I've never played the drums and I really loved it! So this was a completely new experience. Moroever, I did not know that some of the rhythms are part of the world's cultural heritage. Unfortunately I forgot their names, but maybe I can google them. 
The way Edgar taught us the rhythms reminded me very much of how my tap dance teacher used to teach me the rhythms with sounds she'd make with her voice, like " chaka-ta, chaka-ta, chaka, chaka, chaka-ta". It does help lots when you try to perform a rhythm either with your hands, like we did today, or with your feet, as I did when I was a teenager. And as a language teacher I was again reminded of the mnemonic technique of teaching kids rhymes. They carry a rhythm as well and this helps kids - and also grown-ups - to remember things better.
